Meet Brooke Loesby | Founder of Law Life Coach, Inc.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Loesby and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brooke, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It started when I was an unhappy lawyer. I knew I didn’t want to practice law, but I wasn’t sure what else I could do with my law degree. I hired a career coach, and I thought “I want your job.” Luckily, she was very supportive and we came up with a plan. There was a need in the market for attorneys who needed a career coach who specialized in lawyers. I got started working in career services at Loyola Law School, where I took every coaching course I could get my hands on, then used my students as guinea pigs to practice coaching. The students thrived under the coaching. And after they graduated they began contacting me looking for additional guidance. That’s when I knew it was time to start Law Life Coach to serve attorneys who are looking for career coaches. I am proud to say I was one of the first on the block, and our community of lawyer coaches continues to grow! It is now recognized widely as useful whether an attorney is looking to transition practices or careers, make partner, build their book of business, work on a soft skill, or practice boundaries and work-life balance.
What should our readers know about your business?
Our business is serving lawyers and law firms and making the law a better place to practice. It is so rewarding to see positive changes – whether it an attorney that lands their dream job, or a people pleaser that practices saying “no”, or a firm achieving its attorney retention goals through positive culture changes.
Owning your own business comes with a lot of challenges. A big part is learning how to be your own boss. You have to understand yourself and your blind spots. And be able to be your own coach, motivator, problem solver, and spirit guide.
Self-understanding is one of the building blocks in working with my clients as well. We have to understand ourselves (and how others differ) in order to be our own best marketer and plant ourselves where we will grow. When the light bulb goes off for my clients about their strengths and what makes them tick, and why they behave the way they do, and why that can be an asset, it is most rewarding.
Some lessons I have learned through owning a business and working with clients: “This too shall pass.” “Growth occurs outside of our comfort zone.” “Feel the fear and do it anyway.”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have lived in Santa Monica for over 20 years and adore the Westside, and the outdoors. I would start with a hike in Mandeville Canyon, don’t forget to bring your dog. Then go rollerskating in Venice, and grab a bite at Venice Ale House watching the sunset. I think the sunsets here are the most beautiful in the world, and October is the most special. I love people watching at brunch at Patrick’s on the PCH, and catching a yoga or pilates class in Santa Monica. A trip to the Magic Castle would be a must, I love feeling like a kid again. My best travel has always been spontaneous though – so I would encourage my friend and I to check out local live music venues, and see what is popping that week! You never know what you might find in LA and that is one of the best parts of living here.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this to the students of Loyola Law School. They are intelligent, driven, hard working, and kind. It was a great group to work with to practice coaching and I am so proud of their successes.
