Meet Brooke Molinaroli | Contemporary Art Advisor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Molinaroli and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brooke, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I always wanted to be a part of the creative process or a creative and/or innovative environment. It took me many years of wrestling with the idea that I was not going to be a creator whether an artist, photographer, designer, or writer. I pursued all of these possible careers taking classes in photography, writing and considering graduate schools in many of these areas. I finally realized that I did not wake up every morning needing or wanting to create something, but instead I wanted to be around creative people and help them pursue their passions. I’m a good editor and have the ability to look at other ideas and practices and innovate to create something wholly different or new. I’m inspired and highly motivated to do things differently and invent in the context of my business.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started BAM Art Advisory, a contemporary art advisory business in 2018 officially. BAM are the initials for my full name, Brooke Anne Molinaroli. As a child, I always thought it was cool that was my initials spelled a word! I help clients and businesses find unique, curated, and affordable contemporary art and photography for their spaces. I spend a lot of time meeting artists, attending art fairs, and scouring Instagram and online channels for exciting emerging art based on my clients’ needs and environments. I realized early on that besides working directly with clients, I wanted to put on exhibitions to give clients an idea of the kind of artists I would show them. Without the means to have a dedicated gallery space, I started using our 1880s historic home in Larchmont, NY to present exhibitions and showcase art. Thus, the “home gallery” concept was created. I constantly rotate art on consignment from artists and share with clients via a home tour. It is great way to start a conversation about contemporary art with new clients.
When Covid crisis was upon us, and viewing art indoors was not possible, Stephen Moser Architect (SMA) and BAM Art Advisory teamed up to create the outdoor Art in the Yard series. Now running for 3 years, we present art in innovative outdoor presentations, utilizing temporary tent structures, flexible temporary walls, an outdoor covered front porch, and outdoor art installations to merge of best of architecture and art. Showing up to 20 artists and 100 works of art with different thematic presentations, I was very excited and proud to show art in a way beyond the white box gallery. Clients commented please don’t get out of the house, please stay in and around to house as we love the relaxed and interesting way you have created to view art! We learned about presenting outdoor events and managing force majeure, including heavy rain, wind, animals, etc. There is a lot of consider to do it safely and most enjoyable way for people to enjoy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Nick Robinson deserves the credit behind my art advisory business. I think that he had a front seat over the last 20 years observing what I’m good at and had also listened to me talk a lot about art world likes and dislikes. After moving to NY area in 2015 and in the throes of job hunting, he quietly said “visiting friends and family often comment on your art selections and wonder where you sourced the art. Maybe there is a business in this selling exciting, but affordable contemporary art?” I took it from there and crafted an art advisory business that I wanted to be different from traditional gallery or advisory model. He famously said, “Brooke, if I was not married to you, I would have an IKEA poster on my wall. I think there are many other people who would like to have great art for their walls, but I have no idea where to go in the increasingly crowded and confusing art market.”
