We had the good fortune of connecting with Bruce Gregg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bruce, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from Upstate, New York, about half an hour North of Albany. I grew up listening to 102.7 WEQX, a radio station in Manchester, Vermont, where my mother was a DJ throughout most of my childhood. That’s become a huge influence in my art, but besides that, I wasn’t close to a major city or anything. Most of what I learned was from my mother, the DJ and voice-over artist, and my father, a journalist and author. I moved down to the city as soon as I could to study at The Borough of Manhattan Community College, then The City College of New York. I eventually dropped out and drove out here to Hollywood, but the music we listened to in my mother’s car on the way to the radio station still plays in my ears every day.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was a model in New York for awhile. I ran around lower Manhattan with my friends from Queens, Jerry, Chris and all of them. We were all and still are trying to be models or designers. Chris just signed with an agency. Jerry is studying in school now. They’re both going to be legends, probably long before me. I extracted my experience with them, my casting calls, photoshoots and runway shows and have been funneling it all into my art ever since. The main project I’m working on is titled “Menswear.” It’s a television series based on me, Chris, Jerry and the guys. Imagine if Jon Favreau’s “Swingers” was in New York instead of Los Angeles and the boys were trying to be models & designers rather than actors. I’m currently trying to find a home for the series.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Probably a basic answer but the Griffith Observatory scratches the fantasized, movie magic “Hollywood” itch pretty well. It makes you feel inspired, basic or not. In New York, I’d go to the west side at night and stare at the lights on the Hudson River like a freak. It reminds you how massive the culture of humans reaches. The observatory is my version of that.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout the music duo, Phantogram. We’re from the same hometown. My mom played them on her radio station for years. We’ve never met, but their music has been a massive figure for me my entire life. They’re probably my biggest artistic influence. They’re the soundtrack to everything I write. They’re the main influence to every song I produce. They just strike exactly what I look for in good art. They just dropped a song “All A Mystery” I highly suggest going on a run at night and listening to it.
