We had the good fortune of connecting with Bruna Mejias and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bruna, how do you think about risk?
I believe every choice comes with a certain type of risk even if you don’t choose, that’s a choice that comes with a huge risk. To me the biggest risk is to try not to risk anything, that’s the worst risk you can take. When you want something and it’s clear to you what it is that you want, you have to be willing to risk something in order to get it and you have to be brave enough to do it because otherwise you are risking 99% of the chances that you are not getting it, without realizing. I think it comes down to what it means to you to get what you want, what are willing to sacrifice to have a real chance to get it. When I made the choice to move from Brazil to LA I risked everything I had and I’ve never been more sure I was making the right decision for me, for my present and for my future.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
There are easy days, days that everything is flowing harmoniously and as right as it should, and there are also hard days, days that things don’t work out at first, or at second, or third… And you have to keep pushing. I always have challenges to overcome, I overcame a lot, but I’m still currently overcoming some other challenges and in the future I’m sure I will have new challenges to overcome. Challenges are never a bad thing, it’s what pushes us to grow and evolve in life and life is like a video game you face a challenge and overcome it, then you pass to a new phase, to a higher level and then a new challenge comes with that, so you can push yourself again and grow and move on to the next phase… Some challenges can be fun even. How boring would it be if we had no challenges at all?! The feeling of being able to accomplish something you want or need, and know that you are capable of overcoming that hardship or whatever it was to you, is priceless! I think the real “secret” is to always look for the next challenge even before it presents itself to you, this way you get to get used to the uncomfortable and turn the uncomfortable into your new comfortable, because it’s always there and hopefully you get to go through it in a more harmonious way. The biggest lessons I’ve learned in life is to love myself unconditionally, to believe in me regardless of anything and anyone outside, and to hold my standards and my values so I know better when someone or something wants me to shrink or accept less to try to fit in some place or with somebody. If I can pass on a message I want it to help people understand that anything and everything is possible, you just gotta believe it, stay positive (it’s one of the most important things) and also be a good human being, it feels good and also it will always bring back good things in return to you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
LA is so beautiful and has a lot of interesting places that they would be missing a lot if they didn’t go there but I’d make sure to take them to Laguna beach and to the Griffith Observatory. Those are two of my favorite places.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My spiritual team ( God, my angels, my ancestors…) they first and foremost deserve recognition for always protecting and guiding me and providing the help I need when I need it, in expected and unexpected ways and forms. My family who have always supported me the best way they could and who are one of the main reasons I will never give up until I can provide for them the comfort in life they deserve. There have been also some friends, teachers and even “strangers”along the way who have helped me the way they were able to at the time.
