We had the good fortune of connecting with Bryanna Jacobs and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bryanna, how do you think about risk?
When you’re in the freelance industry, you take risks a lot, especially in the the beginning of your career. For me, the risk I took was moving across the country at 18 by myself with no connections or friends to become a makeup artist. It definitely hasn’t been easy but it’s a risk I’m willing to take.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Even though I’m still in the beginning of my career, getting to the point I’m at right now hasn’t been the easiest, especially since a lot of my peers already had connections/ family members that could get them jobs. But I learned that it’s not only about who you know, you also have to standout and make your mark! Never compare yourself to others, work hard, stay focused & if you can do that, you’ll do great.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I haven’t been living in California for long and with the pandemic I haven’t had a chance to travel much however I do know that I would take them to the beach in Santa Monica, hiking & painting at the park and I’ve recently found a place in North Hollywood called Dave’s Hot Chicken which is so good so I’d definitely take them there
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shout-out to my former classmate and fellow makeup artist Christi Dionis because she is actually the reason I was able to work on my first tv show! One day she texted me and told me a director friend of hers is shooting a pilot episode and asked if I was interested and I said yes of course and then a few days later I was on set! It was a great learning experience and I really feel like that took me to the next step in my career.
