Meet Bryanna Wallace | Co-founder, Justice in June

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bryanna Wallace and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bryanna, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Justice in June focuses on the individual aspect of allyship and change. We understand there are systems in place that create inequities in the access and ability of certain groups to achieve and encourage micro-progress to shifting the needle forward. Our goal is to provide tangible and achievable tools towards education and action. Active, anti-racist allyship must be an ongoing process and Justice in June provides a starting place on this journey. We hope to see small wins shift to macro change by inspiring others to embody an anti-racist lifestyle and commit to the daily and consistent practice of showing up, constantly re-evaluating and evolving as an ally.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In my full time role I am an Assistant Brand Manager for a premium hair brand overseeing product development, innovation, and portfolio management. Every day I get to work on projects to bring new ideas to life and change the experience in the curly hair world. A large part of getting to where I am today comes from committing to myself; to my longtime dreams, aspirations and passions. My goal is to run my own fashion company, but I always wanted to learn inside of a business and understand the ins and outs of keeping a company together and thriving. Working in the beauty industry has afforded me many opportunities for self-exploration and flexing both my creative & analytical side. A big part of my role is also collaboration. Being able to share insights and ideas with fellow team members and functions allows me to challenge my own perspectives and find ways to strengthen why I may support something in the first place. These are critical skills that can be applied in so many areas and I am grateful for all that I have learned thus far.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I LOVE to travel and I equally love to show people around my town and let them see the city through my eyes. If I had a friend visiting it’d be a fair share of scenic views, delectable food, and unique experiences. The first few days would be hitting some of the hot spots. We would visit a museum or two like LACMA, the Broad or the new Academy Museum. As we traveled between I would show them my favorite boba spots, bakeries or light bites. Next would be the scenic, picturesque areas that give a peek into LA living- the Venice Canals and a walk down Abbott Kinney, The Point at the Bluffs- a tucked away scenic overlook in the Palisades after enjoying a refreshment over in the Palisades Village and Griffith Observatory or the Getty. Both favorite spots to overlook the vast city. And since I’m a Trojan, they can’t escape without an in-depth tour of USC. Lastly, interspersed throughout would be the hidden gems. The places tucked away that are locally known. The farmers market in Mar Vista, the Jamaican spot Karuba’s Yardy Kitchen down the street from my place, or Fisherman’s Village overlooking the Marina. Giving them a taste of home and the big city at the same time would be all that I wish for them to see!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my incredible support system- family, friends, colleagues- that have come alongside me in this journey. To my best friend Autumn Gupta, who I get to share this endeavor in, thank you for continuing to show up, show out and call others to more. I wouldn’t want to build this alongside anyone else!
