We had the good fortune of connecting with Eden Blackburn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eden, we’d love to hear about a book that’s had an impact on you.
I have been reading ‘Big Magic’ by Elizabeth Gilbert and have been reflecting on all the ‘in between moments’ that she reminds creatives to hold on to. You don’t just leap from big moment to big moment — holding yourself together through all the phases of creation is where the real work lies! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There have been so many in between moments of being a creative freelancers the last five years. I have had times where print material was piling up all around my home, cutting boards on our guest bed, and frantically emailing my business mentor questions about taxes. There has also been moments of working with dream clients + getting inspired by what they bring to the creative world, hitting goals, and getting the keys to a little studio to call my own. ⠀
I have have gone in and out of many different phases and seasons within this little company but always tried to stay true to myself. I think staying true to yourself is one of the most important factors to being successful in the creative industry. A lot of people can create things but your point of view is personal and powerful!
What should our readers know about your business?
I am excited about quite a few brands that we are working on right now – particularly a coffee shop popping up in Georgia! This might be a cliche answer but I feel like I got to where I am today from working really hard! I worked my way through college at many different places to pay for my tuition and realized how much I wanted to work for myself. I started dreaming up what it would be like to serve different clients myself and prepared a lot of processes and invested in learning more. It has been a continued learning process every step of the way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am local to Birmingham, Alabama and love my city.
Coffee + pastries at Continental Bakery
Antiquing in Crestwood
Lunch at El Barrio
Shopping at Civil Stoneware, Shoppe, the General Store
Happy hour at Golden Age Wine
Dinner at Ovenbird or Bottega
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, family and friends who have supported and encouraged me to always keep going and pursuing my passions.
