Meet burce | artist/songwriter/instrumentalist

We had the good fortune of connecting with burce and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi burce, what do you attribute your success to?
for me what the most important “factor” for success would be the community building. im a firm believer in pouring and investing into your community, the people you live and interact with on a daily basis whether is work, personal, family and etc. when the community can help each other grow and thrive by supporting one another is the success behind everything. im proud and honored to have found such amazing group of people. and slowly but surely we are still growing and expanding our village.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
its been a crazy journey. when i firsted started this music career i fully thought i was gonna be only a saxophonist. i began playing in cover bands, jazz combos, and just being a hired gun. i thought i was gonna pursue a career like john coltrane or be like a more modern hero troy roberts. but once i started working the bands i was in needed a singer so i ended up singing. it was tough because i didn’t really sing like that and didn’t have in-depth experience. also i needed up being a band leader and music director without having any experience. i remember on a gig a drummer friend of mine said to me someone needs to drive the boat. whether we crash and burn or we succeed all we need someone to give us direction. it was after that day i learned and became the leader and visionary i am today. it really taught me how to give direction and not be afraid to ask what i want in terms of the music and the direction. honestly if it wasn’t for me becoming a singer i wouldn’t have had opportunities that ive had. such as being in rooms with writers who’ve written for artist such as chris brown and usher. sing background vocals for a bunch of classic disco and motown groups, and lastly pursue my own career.

in regards to my brand, i want people to know that don’t be afraid to learn new skillsets. because you never know what doors that can and will open.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
i would take my friend to a plethora of spots. i would go to highland park. because there are so many places to see shows and grab good food. i would go down to eta and catch a show there. there are so many different genres that can be seen there. where indie, pop, jazz or etc you can catch a show there. then im a fan of home state cause their tacos are so good. and o just say walk around highland park cause youre bound to run into someone or something fun to do

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
there are multiple people of course i wanna shout out! fist let me say thanks to my family for their love and support. music in the economy is tough and im proud to have such a strong support system back me during this time. speaking regarding to music my “squad” i wanna give a huge shout out to the homies timothy jones and richard blacksher. we’re in a collective called midnight snack and also they’re my ride or dies. we’ve been supporting each other through thick and thin. no matter what when the call is sent out, no matter who sends it we ask, “what do you need?” or “how can i help?” im truly thankful and greatful for their support and even more so their friendship. lastly i wanna thanks someone anomalously. if it wasn’t for them i honestly wouldn’t have become a songwriter or even pursued my career as an artist. they are a main reason i am the artist i am today and traces of them can always be felt and seen in my music.
