We had the good fortune of connecting with C J Bahr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi C J, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
There is a quote I always think about when I’m about to start a new novel or story, especially if I’m trying something new.
“The only way to achieve the impossible is to believe it is possible.” – Charles Kingsleigh, Alice in Wonderland.
Kingsleigh’s quote reminds me to strive harder and believe in myself, it reminds me any dreams can come true. I never thought I’d write a novel, let alone finish one, yet now I’m an award-winning author in two genres and currently collaborating with a fellow writer in a third.
I find this quote inspiring, reminding me when adversity strikes and I think all is lost to dream the impossible.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an author of paranormal romance and supernatural suspense. My journey was long and tough and I still struggle, however with the support of my friends, fellow authors, and my readers, they prop me up,
I was first published in an anthology in my early twenties, during a time when there was no such thing as self-publishing like today. It took twenty more years to publish again, this time with a novel.
If you want something enough, and you keep working hard, the impossible becomes possible. It is never too late to reach for the sky.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First, we’d start at MacLeod’s Ale Brewing Company in Van Nuys, for a micro-brew pint and pizza for lunch, and then go on a trail ride through Griffith Park. We’d end the day with a home-cooked meal and a round of Cards Against Humanity.
I’d also take my friend to The Last Bookstore. This downtown LA bookstore is not just a place to buy books; it’s a work of art. We’d explore the labyrinthine space with its unique book installations and enjoy the creative atmosphere.
We would attend a Cinespia movie screening at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Watching classic films outdoors in a cemetery under the stars is a unique LA experience.
Suppose she was here during the holiday season. In that case, a trip to the Descanso Gardens in La Cañada Flintridge is a must when it transforms into a magical wonderland with dazzling light displays.
Also having dinner at my favorite Italian restaurant would be a must. Prosecco Trattoria in Toluca Lake has amazing food and wine in a setting that makes you linger and take your time.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents. They inspired a love of reading at a very young age, making me the devouring book addict I am today, which led me to write my own stories to share with the world.
