We had the good fortune of connecting with Serafina LoGiacco and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Serafina, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I think running a business doesn’t have to be super different than how you live your life. You get to make so many choices each day that affect our world and your direct community. For Capisce it’s so much about sourcing – were the crops sprayed with pesticides? How are the farm workers treated? Was it shipped from afar? Taking the initiative to seek local and ethical sources is always top priority and that trickles out to community health and a positive environmental impact. Even from packaging and re-using boxes to help create less waste. The choices are endless!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I studied fashion in college and have made a bit of a 180 since then… But looking back it’s interesting to see how all my past jobs have led me to where I am now. At the moment, Capisce is a one woman show, so utilizing all my skills from photography to baking and marketing has helped me to create something all my own. Learning to trust in timing with some patience has also been a deep lesson!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hmm I have since moved from LA to Santa Barbara but we would most likely check out both! Surf at Rincon, hang at Hammond’s Beach in Montecito, hike Rattlesnake Canyon, grab some natural wine and dinner at Satellite.

Head to LA and eat Gjusta or Honey Hi, peek at the Broad museum or the Getty, shop at New High Mart or Rose Bowl flea if it’s happening, stop by Erewhon and Cookbook to grab pantry supplies and end with a bottle of wine from Psychic Wines.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My dear friend Sofia who encouraged me to start selling my granola! Without her words, I don’t know I would have taken the leap. And my partner Alex who helps me endlessly in every way. Also Alice Waters for paving the way of running a restaurant in an ethical and beautiful way.
