Meet Caesar B | Community Organizer & Apothecary

We had the good fortune of connecting with Caesar B and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Caesar, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Because I’m a creative. I think it really is that simple. When you think about the question “why did you pursue an artistic or creative career?” the immediate answer that I feel is because I am creation and art. Nothing else ever felt right, going to school or doing something that didn’t feed entirely what I wanted to make. It never felt whole or good enough.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So, to keep it simple, I’m an apothecary and a community organizer. Originally when I created Capri’s Apothecary it was under the guideline of a regular apothecary, creating handmade and original items for different customers. But then it blossomed and grew into an entire space in which people could find themselves, find community and have new experiences. It definitely hasn’t been easy and I’m still working to overcome some of my struggles, which are mostly financial. But I know that things take time and I don’t mind being patient. I want the world to know that this creation, this space is for a group of people who are rarely heard or listened to and it will remain that way and remain true to its original practice.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my absolute favorite places in the city would be Radio Coffee, Meanwhile Brewing, Hanks and Barton Springs. I love shopping at Thrift Town and on the Congress strip.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shout out to the Black Queer community in all of Austin. For those who are pioneering in a place that has been really small for us, a place that is pushed us out and made us feel like our voice is going to be heard. A place that hasn’t celebrated us but we create our own celebrations. You are the reason that I do what I do and that everyday I’m finding new ways to make it come to fruition.
