We had the good fortune of connecting with Caitlin Watson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caitlin, how do you think about risk?
I live for risk! I believe life is so beige without taking a risk. Some of the most incredible moments and adventures in my life have come about because I took a leap of faith and just went with it. A prime example was in 2019 when I had just turned 23; I moved to NYC without a permanent place to live or a job lined up. Half the fun of that was the unknown and having to work it out along the way. I can say though that there are certain areas of my life where I am more willing and open to take a risk, such as adventures and career, and those are the areas that I find I thrive in and give me excitement. So for me, it’s just breaking down that barrier within that is stopping me from taking risks in all areas of my life in order to get that fulfilment all round. There is no doubt that taking a risk can be scary, but those that are brave enough to take one get to see how great the reward can be on the other end.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Triple Threat & Creative from Sydney, Australia. I am lucky enough to have my US greencard, so am able to live and work in the US. As well as being a Triple Threat & Creative, I have my Certificate III & IV in Fitness, and am studying a Bachelor of Media & Communications. So I think one of my superpowers is that I can do it all! Hard work and consistency has gone into getting me to where I am today. It is not and has not been an easy road. Being in an industry where there are a lot of setbacks requires perseverance, and a strong ‘why’. Over the last year and a half, I have shifted my focus to self-discovery, which I have found to be a pivotal element in advancing in my career. I am excited that the entertainment industry is slowly recovering from the pandemic, and I truly believe it will come back with a vengeance. SO READY!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooo fun! Love when my friends come to visit! So, I’ll keep it fairly brief.

Places to eat/drink:
SO many places! But just a few are Urth Caffé, WeHo; Gracias Madres, WeHo; Aroma Coffee & Tea Co, NoHo; Terra at Eataly; The Rooftop by JG; Sur; Crave Sushi.

Places to visit/hang out:
Of course all the must-dos would be first up – Griffith Observatory; Urban Light, LACMA; Disneyland/Universal Studios; The Grove; Rodeo Drive; Runyon Canyon; Venice/Santa Monica; Angeles National Forest; LA Dodgers game; Malibu beaches.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely! There is a number of people I recognise in my story, but I’ll dedicate the space to my family, Renee Ritchie and my American Arts Film and Television Academy (AAFTA) family. All those strong words used in the question: effort, support, mentorship, love, encouragement – they give all of this and more. My family are my number 1 supporters emotionally and financially. I would not be in the position I am today without their love, guidance and support. Renee was one of my dance teachers back when I was in High School and we reconnected last year through AAFTA’s Empowering the Artist Dance program. She is an incredible mentor and friend who I am truly grateful for. My AAFTA family, with a special mention to Jessica Orcsik and Robbie Ryde, are one of a kind. I consider myself very lucky to have these people in my life, both guiding me and giving me the tools to thrive in my career, as well as being amazing friends. They also gave me the opportunity to work alongside them being an assistant to Renee for the dance program, which I absolutely love doing!
