We had the good fortune of connecting with Caley Joyner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caley, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
In human design, I am a manifesting generator…which means that I don’t like to go out in search of things…I like to magnetize them to myself. I wait for the right people and things to come into my sphere, and then I pounce on the opportunities! But when things don’t come my way with grace, ease, joy, and flow…when I get stuck in thinking about the “how” instead of the “what,” (the desired outcome) that’s when I know it’s time to either shift my perspective in a BIG way OR move on. I don’t think of this as giving up. To me, its means I am releasing something that is not meant to be mine in the first place. I am conserving my energy for something else amazing and better than I can even imagine that will come my way.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am an Embodiment Business Coach, working with females to help them connect deeply to their passions, find their purpose, and turn their biggest obstacles into their greatest superpowers. I am also an internationally renowned Yoga Teacher & Yoga Nidra Guide, sponsored by Michelob and Alo Yoga, and have digital content on major fitness platforms including Beachbody, Mindbodygreen, and Alo Moves. I really didn’t get into yoga until after college. In high school, my siblings and I had practiced sporadically at best, and I only took one Iyengar class at the University of Oregon, but otherwise, I was really more of a dancer growing up. Once I finished my undergraduate degree, moved to San Francisco, and began a career in Finance, yoga found me. It came to me when I needed it most. I was in a new city, with no friends and a partner who was working his butt off to prove himself at his first big job out of undergrad. I walked out of class with Darren Main at Yoga Tree, saw a sign for teacher training on the counter, and immediately signed up. Leaving my career in finance for yoga was scary. After a big merger with another institution, I was let go…and I had MAJOR feelings of inadequacy. I was absolutely afraid that I would fail and have to return to a 9-5 job, working for “the man.” I didn’t like having to rely on my partner to help sustain myself in that transition. Looking back, there were a lot of emotions that came up for me but mostly… I was so HAPPY! Happy to be free and to be working for myself. Happy to have a job where I was actually helping to make other people healthier and happier themselves. I was really and truly happy. Any self-employed person will tell you that the success of their brand/business depends on how much work they put into it. If you put in mediocre effort, you will receive mediocre results. If you work your buns off and give it the best possible effort, there’s not a chance you won’t succeed. Initially, the most challenging part of being a yoga teacher for me was the financial component. I wasn’t making enough money to sustain myself and I relied upon my partner to support me. Flash forward ten years later and I am an independent woman making more than enough money to support myself and doing what I LOVE! My job holds meaning to me. Success is a state of mind. There are moments when I’m in it and moments when I’m not. When I feel content, calm, and at peace…SUCCESS! When I am happy, motivated, and productive…SUCCESS! When I’m not in the best frame of mind, and I realize it and take myself out of it…SUCCESS!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Pretending this is Pre-COVID times: I live in Portland, Oregon. So…we would have to start with Breakfast croissants at Ken’s Bakery followed by a walk down NW 23rd and then over to the Pearl District to explore Powells Bookstore. After that, lunch at Lardo and a hike up through Forrest Park to the Rose Gardens to see a spectacular view of the whole city! Dinner at Farmhouse Thai. Drinks and live music at Doug Fir. Then, we would take the next day to go wine tasting in the Willamette Valley…Penner-Ash is a MUST! Another must-see is the Gorge and Multnomah Falls. We would stop for lunch in Hood River at River Dayz Cafe and a coffee at Kcikstnad on the way to my parent’s ranch in Heppner, Oregon. We would ride four-wheelers, eat fresh honey from a hive, and spend time unplugging. From there we would circle back and hit some hidden hot springs on Mount Hood followed by a winter snow ski session on Meadows or Timberline. Last, but most certainly not least, I would take you to the Oregon Coast. Manzanita and Cannon Beach, and Gearheart areas are my favorites! Haystack Rock. Short Sands Beach. Forested Beach hikes… Pizza a Fetta Montrachet pizza for lunch, and some divey fish spot for dinner. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
