We had the good fortune of connecting with Calvin M. Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Calvin, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Language and sound are two of the greatest pathways to make people feel. On my path to figure out, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”, I kept veering off unto the path of the artist. I realized artist makes people feel. The moment that I realized language had incredible power to shift rooms, coupled with frequencies and tones to penetrate and connect with the core of our humanity…I was like, “That is me.” I live in constant self discovery and observation of myself. And I am always desiring to vibrate and express myself in the highest octave of myself, so the artistic path found me, and I continue to find it. My life’s purpose is connecting with others through feeling.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an actor & singer who recently transitioned here to LA 2 years ago from a decade of being a New York artist. How I present as an artist is a grounded Black man who boldly sits in the heart center and isn’t afraid of vulnerability and sensitivity. My acting & art is nuanced in truth and heart. I’m extremely hyped about my first feature film that I wrote last year currently titled, “Sunshower” and the canonical work I’m developing for Black men in movies and plays. “Sunshower” is my first baby, and I’m really excited for the next steps.

My acting career began professionally 15 years ago, and it hasn’t been easy. A decade of that was invested to acting in NY. It has required leaps of faith, audacity and failures. I love acting. We keep co-creating and finding each other over and over again. I am grateful.

I’m excited to share with the Universe not only more from the acting front coming soon, but some really powerful writing and music projects that I have in the horizon. It’s time for the feels…

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my friend on a hike at Kenneth Hahn Park. It’s beautiful and Black with some really dope views. It’s a favorite. Then we would head down to Stevie’s Creole Cafe in Mid City. It’s some of the best food that I’ve had so far. Then we would round out with a sunset at Playa Del Ray Beach. Low key views and great vibes.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my shoutout to my mentor and my family, Harry Thompson, a New York 90-year old oratorio and classical concert singer. His career has spanned over 60 years and he still sings. He often says to me, “This (art) is my life force. It’s the reason that I get up in the morning.” This is for my man, Harry Thompson.
