We had the good fortune of connecting with Cameron Jordan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cameron, what inspires you?
Magic. I am so inspired by the natural magic that takes place in this world. It takes a fine tuned eye and patience to see. We are able to access information, goods, experiences with such immediacy that I love showcasing visuals that take a moment to full digest. Light plays a huge part in this and can drastically change the mood and overall tone of an image. This to me is truly magical and fuels my reason to create.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Chasing light has always been my passion. As a kid, I became fascinated with the magic of photography–capturing a single moment on film, something you can see for a second and then remember forever with the click of a button. There is so much depth of emotion, subtext and story that can exist in that single unscripted moment. The intangible magic, and the spontaneity of those perfect accidents, inspire and drive me.

I studied sculpture and photography at the University of Texas at Austin, where I became immersed in the Austin art and music scene. I started photographing bands, painting for art galleries, and worked with an art movement called “Burn the Box,” where I met some of the artists that changed my life forever. I worked locally for a few years, but eventually I put on my red cowboy boots and followed my heart (and a drummer) to Los Angeles. I was traveling all over the world, photographing bands. I loved the raw energy of the performers, the gypsy lifestyle and fleeting impermanence.

Now, we have two amazing kids. These days you will likely find me doing photo shoots with them holding the reflector or doing BTS with their own camera.

I create lifestyle work for companies, specializing in fashion and eco-friendly associations and brands. I’ve had the incredible opportunity to shoot for Vogue, Rolling Stone, Conde Nast and many others.

I have also been experimenting with a mixed media blending of photography and my abstract, etherial painting style.

The journey as an artist, photographer, mother and wife has shaped the landscape of my life vastly and I aim to use my passion to help make the world a better place while inspiring my two budding artists to also make the world a little more beautiful with their hearts and their art.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would say first start your trip out right with flying into Burbank. That experience will change your life! I’ll grab you and we can head to do a hike in Griffith Park. I love starting at the Greek Theater and hiking the “Ass Melter” along the Devil’s Spine. Post hike we can grab coffee or smoothies at Lassens. We live in Eagle Rock, and my favorite part of that area is how close everything is. We walk, bike or rent scooters to do everything. I would have us start at our house and walk down to Walt’s–my favorite and local pinball bar–grab a glass of biodynamic wine and then walk over to the Capri for a snack and a cocktail. Then we can walk through York street and hop into some shops on the way to Figueroa street. Dinner spots would have to be Hippo or Otono. A nightcap at the Blind Barber or Housekeeping. Then walk it all off on a walk through Occidental college and back home.

The next day we would hit the beach, I love to wake up early and get to El Matador in Malibu. Stopping at the Trancas Country Market and getting snacks and juice. El Matador is known for its rock formations and beautiful scenery, so the best time to view is in the morning or golden hour in the afternoon. I love doing yoga by the beach and walking along the sand. Late lunch at Paradise Cove, its insanely large portions, but a fun atmosphere and there is a cold seafood appetizer that is wild. Dinner at Cinespia, which is a movie at the Hollywood Cemetery. We will pack a picnic and wine, then head to view a movie on the side of a mausoleum. Post movie we can boogie to Daisy O’Dell (cross your fingers she is DJ-ing) and dance under the stars.

There is so much to do in Los Angeles and just an hour away you can hit the beach, mountains, or desert. We adore living in this beautiful city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
An amazing photographer and producer, Jeff Markowitz. He is an incredible photographer and has created some of the most iconic images in political photojournalism. His positivity, inspiration and overall belief in my work has pushed me to dream bigger, reach higher, and to be fearless in a competitive world of photography.
