We had the good fortune of connecting with Candice Blaauw and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Candice, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Finding a career that gives me the freedom to create and be my free spirited self is amazing . The fact that I can wake up & go to work excited, ready to work & have fun at the same time is the best feeling. Seeing my clients reaction once I’m finished with there hair is so satisfying . We as stylist have total control over our clients new look so watching all the emotions that come into play wether it’s a huge smile , crying because they are so happy or down to husbands calling to say how beautiful they’re wives look and thanking me . I’m a big people pleaser so when I’m able to go above and beyond there expectations it makes my day. That is what makes me so happy !

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I specialize in color. Especially Blondes ! Color has always been my go to . It’s always been what pulls me in . The ability to make such a drastic change on someone Is so awesome . I’m really proud of myself. I have put so much into building my career and into my art . I take so much pride in my hard work . It definitely wasn’t easy . Working 13 hr days completely exhausted then going to my moms to pick up my son and going home to house work . It’s hard !!!! I’ve sacrificed a lot along the way including a social life , being able to put my son to bed so many nights , dating etc, the list goes on. There’s only so much time in a day to get things done and my priorities were in order. Currently I am now finally my own business, CANDYBOMB HAIR . Planning on building my own salon. Due to covid i put a hold on my plans but it will be coming in the future. I’m so ready and excited . Good things are coming and always staying positive .

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well if I were to plan a week with my girl friend I would plan on a lot of outdoor activities. Living in so cal there is so much to do. Of course the beach is a go to. Malibu is fun you can enjoy the day ordering food and drinks on the beach . I also love going to some rooftops . A few of my faves is The Highlight Room . Perch and Calabra. Hiking in the mornings are fun , finding some pretty waterfall spots . If we’re having a chill night with good food and drinks my favorite place Is JOEY DTLA . I love Nick + Stef’s steakhouse and Mastros . For a brunch I love going to Openaire . The vibe there so bomb and the food is yummy. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to give the biggest shoutout to my Mama . If it wasn’t for her support throughout my career i wouldn’t have had the freedom to work the way I do and opportunity to build. As a single mother not only is it difficult financially but it’s also so frustrating finding a baby sitter. With this career we don’t have set hours. We work until we’re done . My mother has been my rock since the day i started cosmetology school till today . Always supporting me in all my decisions with my career choices , watching my son so I can work my crazy hours and just being there for a shoulder to cry on . She’s the best !!! The other person I need to shoutout is my Hair mama Alix Lopez. I call her my hair mama because she has mentored me since day 1. I started off as her assistant, to working side by side with her as I built my clientele . She had taught me everything I need to know about hair and has also been my rock throughout my career. I look up tho this women so much. I will always be so grateful to her .
