Meet Carla Zuniga | Hairdresser turned Podcaster

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carla Zuniga and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carla, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
My end goal is to have done something that impacts people’s lives on a grander scale then what I have been doing. As a hairdresser, you make people feel good on a smaller, superficial scale. But, my goal has always been to that on a much more massive scale. Right now, I have started a podcast with my best friend, and the goal is to inspire and motivate women to take that first step in changing their lives and the lives of their family for the better. And, we plan on building our brand to the point where we do tours, write books and sell merchandise that align with our values. We want to do this because we want to help people in a positive way, and also be doing something that we are passionate about as our careers. So that at the end of my career, I can look back and say that I did something massive for women, specifically moms; be proud of me for following through on all my goals; and to show my daughter that anything is possible as long as you work hard, believe in yourself, and go for it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What I can say is that I’m grateful to not only be a creative, but also have some business sense. It has always lead me into leadership/management positions everywhere I have worked. I have gotten where I am today because people have believed in me more than I have believed in myself, which is awesome to be able to say. It wasn’t easy, as I also started completely over and had to work my way back up to where I am now. I think that putting your ego aside and having a slice of humble pie helped me get through a lot of it because the more you resist, the harder things will be for you. So, I strongly suggest to anyone that is starting over to just surrender to what will be and keep moving towards your goal. I think that has been a big lesson for me. There’s only so much you can control, the rest you just have to surrender to what will be. Also, the only thing you really can control is your reaction to things. You get that down right away, and your journey will have less hurdles/resistance. I want people to know that my friend and I are creating a space for moms to support moms through their EFF IT moments. Those big, life changing moments. We believe and hope that women listening out there will become inspired to take that leap they have always wanted to take, but maybe felt too scared or that the timing wasn’t right. We are here to support them and to motivate them to jump!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I want to give a shoutout to my husband. I am so grateful to have such a supportive partner who encourages me to go for what lights me up. He is my cheerleader! I also want to give a shoutout to one of my best friends, Romi, who I am doing our podcast with. We align like no other and we push each other to keep going. And, lastly, my other best friends, Lilli and Tadji. They have been me sage advice and are so encouraging in all the things that I do. I’m so grateful for all these people so much!
