We had the good fortune of connecting with Carlos Gomez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carlos, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
When I was a kid, my mother taught me to not do anything halfway. “Give it your all or don’t do it.” To me, this means that if you find your passion, you should commit to it wholeheartedly.

In my career, my talent and work ethic have earned me positions on some very impressive teams, allowing me to work on notable projects. Similarly, when I played sports, I often worked my way into a starting position. Whether it’s a job, a hobby, or a relationship, I always give it my all.

I want my legacy to be one of dedication and excellence. I hope to be remembered as someone who was passionate, committed, and always gave 100% effort in everything I pursued. I want people to recall my unwavering dedication and my ability to inspire others to do the same.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The most crucial advice I can share with anyone, anywhere, is this: stretch. I played a lot of sports, and even though I was taught to stretch and warm up before games, I didn’t stretch-stretch. Always stretch-stretch. Everything I share from this point on is just extra.

I have always wanted to be a storyteller. As a kid, I would act out scenes with my toys where Snoopy held Princess Leia captive and Luke Skywalker swung into action from a kite string tied to a tree branch. Luke would defeat everyone and then go make out with Leia. I didn’t understand how wrong that relationship was back then; I was still young.

Another time, the $6 million man Steve Austin went zip-lining across the room to escape from the evil Stretch Armstrong. I was constantly creating stories.

I grew up loving old cartoons, especially MGM and Warner Bros classics. The humor didn’t fully make sense to me then. It makes way more sense to me now. Nevertheless, the art and storytelling still influenced me, and I wanted to tell smart and clever stories like those.

The problem for me was that there were no mentors around who knew where to start. I’ve often talked about being an old man telling stories on a porch. The porch I associate with that memory is at my grandmother’s house, just half a block away from the Fairgrounds Projects in Rockford, Illinois. Needless to say, it has been a long road, but I stayed persistent. Like in football, where running backs are told to keep their legs pumping no matter what obstacles they face, I’ve applied this mindset to my career.

Despite the challenges, my career has been a wild and exciting ride. I have had the opportunity to work with some dream reaching companies. That’s why I lift others up, because I understand the struggle. Through it all, I can now tell you stories about how I’ve written scripts that have won film festivals and how I hang out with my friends in and around LA to shoot movies with my friends.

So keep your legs pumping and please never forget to stretch.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I like food, so things will be planned around eating spots. We’ll kick it off in Hollywood, for a stroll down the Hollywood Walk of Fame. To fuel up, we’re going to Umami Burger for some gourmet burgers. Then we’ll head over to the TCL Chinese Theatres and check out SpiderMan and Hulk. Not the movies, the characters outside posing in the street. Maybe get free tickets to a game show or a Bill Maher taping. We can’t miss the Hollywood Sign. Sorry, gotta do all of it for the Gram.

My dad is from Cuba and I love Cuban food, so we’re going to Porto’s Cuban Bakery. I remember going to Porto’s in Burbank when it was much smaller. Now it’s nice and big, but the quality of food remains top notch.

The lasagna bolognese at La Pergoletta in North Hollywood is among the best lasagnas I have ever had, if not the best. My friends Jack and Robert introduced me to this place. I have an absolutely terrible lactose allergy, and before I could even finish my sentence, the server brought me a dish with three Lactaid pills on it. That opened the door to this life-changing dish. I would commit crimes for that lasagna.

And if you are vegan, I’m taking you to Gokoku. They do great things with plant based food there.

I love golf so I would take my friend to Riviera Country Club. I have never been there and I hear it’s nice. I’m trying to take advantage of this hypothetical.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that I could recognize here. I have been so incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by quality people whom I love and appreciate. They know this because I tell them often. However, this shoutout goes to the person who has influenced me the most: my mother. She molded me into the person I am today, literally with her hands, and occasionally with a chancleta.

My mother is the one who taught me my work ethic. She instilled in me not just the value of hard work, but also the importance of being a responsible leader. Because of her, not only do I work hard, but I also constantly cheerlead my friends, share new things I’ve learned, and push to collaborate on projects so we can find success together.

My mom taught me all of this. When I was a kid, I promised her that I would buy her a house, and I am determined to keep that promise. My mother deserves this recognition for shaping me into the person I am today.
