We had the good fortune of connecting with Lyna Cunningham and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lyna, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Doing floral arrangements and gardening has always been a really big hobby of mine. I just have a passion to grow and take care of something or to decorate with colors and flowers. I discovered the flower mart DTLA after being asked to help with someone’s wedding flowers back in 2008 I believe. Ever since that day, going to the flower mart has always made my day, it just makes me so happy. The flower mart is definitely my happy place! I love all the colors, the hustle and bustle of people carrying flowers wrapped in brown butcher paper or newspaper and the smell of the flowers really recharges my body, mind and soul! So after becoming a personal assistant, I had the opportunity to do weekly floral arrangements for the family I was working for. Then with that, I had created some really special holiday arrangements and that family and all of my friends were really adamant about me doing this as a business. I guess I had never really thought I was that good or I mostly thought, No, this is just my hobby! I have really creative and supportive friends and they really pushed me to get it started even if it was just going to be a side business. And they all knew it made me really happy to do it. Because I received so much love and support, I decided to go for it!

I guess I would consider my floral designs organic and bespoke. I can do your classic style floral arrangement, but I lean more towards a modern take on natural flow. Clients can show me a photo and I can either do close to what they show me or I take the colors, flowers and design that they like and do more of a personalization of my touch. I really just research a lot of designs and watch a lot of other floral designers for their tips and tricks. I taught myself how to do floral design. I did not go to school for this. I do have a creative personality and am drawn to flowers and gardening. It really just comes pretty natural to me! The biggest lessons I’ve learned is to trust my gut and know that my creations are beautiful! I am a perfectionist so I’m constantly telling myself my designs are not good enough! That is why I have such a great group of supportive friends to tell me that I am crazy and that it is a true talent to make these beautiful designs. And also learning to let go, that once the arrangement leaves my hands, I cannot control how the recipient takes care of it. I’m just extra careful of what flowers are used together, how hot the weather is going to be and how hydrated I can make the arrangement to get it to last as long as it can! I’d want the world to know that my brand is fun and colorful! Flowers bring happiness to people’s lives and that’s what I really want people to take away from me personally and my designs!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh wow! Having been a luxury concierge in this city, there are so many options! I would take my BF to all my fav spots and not necessarily all the “Hollywood” tourist spots… And taking COVID into consideration, this would obviously before the pandemic closed and re-opened some of these places… Fav Breakfast Spot – Quality on Third. Homemade biscuits! You gotta have them all! Blueberry! Rosemary! And the classic! Fav Lunch Spot – Belmont. Best damn taco salad! Dinner is hard because there are so many options! Jon and Vinny’s. Met Him at a Bar. Robata Jinya. Getting drinks at – Kassi Club. Elephante. Belmont. Comedy Store. Roger Room. Activities – Biking in Santa Monica. Duffy boats in Newport! Beach days in Marina del Rey. Hiking Runyon. Loungin’ by a fire in Big Bear. Stand-up at The Comedy Store. Seeing a For The Record show – I’ve seen them all! Seen their Tarantino show at least 3 times! The last one was Love Actually! Actually took my best friend to this when she was visiting! We love that movie! Watching a LIVE recording of a podcast at Largo. So much to eat, drink and do in this amazing city!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to give a HUGE shoutout to one of my very best friends and sister she never wanted LOL, Natalie Masciale! Not only does she help me with my website and does ALL the photography for my floral designs, she is a big support system to me and my life!
