We had the good fortune of connecting with Carlos Vasquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carlos, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factors behind my success and the success of my brand is that I know what I ultimately want to accomplish (clarity), I have codified a personal mission and vision (accountability) and I am passionate about what I do (purpose). These key areas keep me on track and focused daily.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business name is How to Battle.
How to Battle offers a pathway to personal transformation through guided coaching to overcome self-doubt and build lasting confidence.
Our mission is to conquer self-doubt, build confidence, and empower people to realize their human potential.
We currently provide: One-to-one coaching, Group Coaching, Motivational Speaking, and Mentoring.
I like to say that How to Battle is like fitness training but instead of working with you to build your muscles up, we work with you to build your confidence up! And like fitness training, transformation doesn’t just happen over night: it takes commitment, repetition, and dedication. How to Battle is the blueprint on how to achieve higher confidence in your life so that you can live your best life.
I am excited and proud to announce that the How to Battle mobile app will be launching soon! This will allow for us to impact more people much faster and deliver coaching to our users as they navigate through their busy lives.
The app will provide weekly guided coaching practices with actionable steps and strategies to overcome self-doubt and build confidence. It will also provide daily affirmations, motivation, community building, and more.
I got to where I am today by conquering my own self-doubt and gaining confidence in my ability to achieve my dreams.
I had to ask myself the following questions: what am I good at? what are my skills? what am I passionate about? and how can I get paid to do what I love? After answering t those questions, I began to put in the work and make sacrifices.
You have to put in the work and make sacrifices if you want to achieve something great, period! You also have to believe in yourself, even when no one else does. You have to commit to being a life-long learner because in this day and age if you are not constantly learning you will be left behind.
Challenges are inevitable and I have faced many many challenges. The one thing that has helped me overcome those challenges is my warrior mindset. With this mindset, quitting is simply not an option and fighting through the challenges is all a part of life, so I just embrace the challenges and learn from them.
An important lesson that I have learned along the way is to not be too rigid in my way of thinking. It’s so important to be flexible and open to change as you build a business. Another lesson that I have come to realize is that the people I associate with have a significant impact on the person that I am. Since we naturally take on some of the habits, language, and ways of those closest to us, once I cut out the losers out of my life and surrounded myself with winners, I started to see more wins in my life.
I want the world to know that my personal mission is to inspire positive transformation in others every chance I get.
That means no matter situation nor context, if I see an opportunity to help another person then I do it.
My life is dedicated to serving others. My brand and my story are all about never giving up, becoming stronger during times of struggle, defying the odds, applying leadership, committing oneself fully, gaining wisdom and knowledge, and paying it forward.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend came to LA to visit for a week I would take him or her to the following places: Breakfast at Dupar’s on 3rd street (one of my favorite pancakes places).
Santa Monica, to check out the pier.
Universal Studios (a must see in LA).
El Cholo Mexican Restaurant for tacos.
Paddle boarding at the Marina.
Venice to workout at muscle beach.(the workouts don’t stop even when I have visitors).
Gyu Kaku Los Angeles for some Korean BBQ.
Griffith Park Trails.
A morning run on Manhattan Beach (one of my favorite beaches).
Catalina island.
Hollywood walk of fame.
Crypto.com Arena for a Laker game.
Sofi stadium for a Rams game.
Maestro Restaurant for steaks.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to one of my best friends Peter Meyerhoff who is the Host of the Roll Call with Chappy Podcast. Peter and I met at a time when I was not sure of where I wanted to steer myself on the road of life.
Not only was I not sure of where I wanted to go, the ideas that I had in my mind seemed so far out of my reach, given my circumstances at that time. Needless to say, I doubted myself.
Peter encouraged me, inspired me, and showed me through his actions and accomplishments that anything is possible. It’s been only a year since Peter and I met but the impact he’s had on my life is a decades worth.
He continues to be a motivator and mentor to me, and has given me many opportunities that have helped steer me onto a successful path. Peter does everything out of the kindness of his heart, just wanting to see me succeed. He deserves so much credit and plays a major role in my current success.
