We had the good fortune of connecting with Carolina Mejias Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carolina, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Since I started working as a model/music/acting, is being always a risk taking, something that at the beginning was a little scary but after doing that, that looks as a risk and you do it and you realise wasn’t that bad, was actually great, and if was a little bad was just for learn something else, or for redirect yourself in something better was always worth it every risk, that moment where you put yourself in the unknown, and magic happens

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being working as a model for almost 11 years, all started in Canary Islands (where I’m from) was my dreams since very little, to just be involved in the art world, I used to watch Disney shows (the one where you become a singer or a dancer) when I was around 7 years old and take the phone of my house and call to the tv program asking what I had to do, without telling my mum that I did it, then the phone bill came and surprise, I had to explain what happened(haha). So I was always in the school doing something involved in art, taking dancing classes, singing, creating my own music band, painting, I did some catwalks in Canary Islands too, but my career didn’t started till I turn 18, and I started to travel all around Europe and work well known brands and photographers, cities like (Milan, London, Germany, Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, New York (where I live now), Los Angeles and Miami), I learn how to live in a winter city (we don’t have winter in Canary Islands). I learn how to be with my self, to be more self-sufficient even if I had to be like that since a very young age when my dad left and I had to grow with my mum and my two brothers. Slowly you learn how to do things, you maybe make a mistake one and then you learn from there, and if you didn’t learn you might have to repeat it again till you learn. I was living my dream, creating my adventure and experiencing things that I’ll repeat all over again, yes some moments a little bit hard but you’ve the strength inside to overcome them and after that is like a reward. I’ve learn that even in the loneliness moments we’re never alone, and exposing myself to life, I had met amazing people that they being extremely helpful during this long trip, some of them still with me, some of them we lose a little the connection, but is normal, is part of life. One of the biggest lesson that learned was to never lose connection from where you’re from your roots, to be connected to yourself , never leave your dreams for nothing or nobody, do what make you feel fully happy and to surround yourself with people that have the best intentions in life and with you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favourite things to do when I’m living in a new city or even in a city that I already know is to discover new places and go with my friends or family and more if they’re visiting for vacation. If we’re in New York, there’s so many good places to try and visit, an itinerary day will be starting in to a good hot yoga class or some kind of workout and the going to one of my favourite places for a good breakfast or brunch for example Ruby’s they’ve different location, I like the Nolita location one, we’ll go for a nice walk around West Village, around Bleecker st, there’s many beautiful boutiques and the streets around that neighbour are so pretty, we’ll stop by Sogno Toscano, grab a nice coffee there and keep walking all the west up, till Chelsea Market, we’ll walk around the market, grab a cookie at Sarabeth’s, buy something in the market and walk around the Highline, after walk a little bit, go to some galleries around Chelsea if we feel like, or go to Little Island and relax for a little bit, we’ll keep walking (be ready for walk and wear comfortable shoes)(ok if we’re to tired we’ll take subway or uber) and go around lower east side to grab dinner in Beauty & Essex after a nice and yummy dinner we’ll finish our day at Mr. Purple with some drinks, music and maybe some dancing. One thing that I did and I loved to do when my mum visit, was take the ferry in Financial district, to Staten Island you’ll see super close the Statue of Liberty, once you get in Staten Island, go with appetite because there’s this amazing Italian restaurant “Enoteca Maria”, and what have special is that they serve cuisine from around the world, in a unique way, they bring grandmothers from every country and they cook they recipe that they normally will do at home in their hometown, is absolutely delicious and a fun experience.
