Meet Carrie Gibson: Actor and Screenwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carrie Gibson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carrie, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
As an actor and a writer I have had to embrace taking risks and conquering my fears. When I first decided to pursue an acting career I had to battle with fear in every audition. I am sure it showed in my auditions so I realized I had to eliminate it. I did everything from fear workshops where I walked across fire coals to less drastic acting workshops. I think perspective was the ultimate life changer. I realized if my life was not at risk there was no real risk other than to my self esteem. As I told myself fear had no place in my life, I began to take on any assignment with joy instead. As a story teller now there is no where I will not go if it serves the story and the story has value. As a screen writer the only risk is spending time on something that never gets made. What I have discovered is that if you stay committed to writing and rewriting and never give up, the risk is worth it. I have a writing partner which makes the commitment part easier and more gratifying. I am thrilled to say that our first screenplay is slated tp be made in 2021 with a wonderful producing team based in LA and England. I realized how lucky I am to be in a position where risk for me is of my own making. I have total admiration for people who choose professions where risk is actual, they risk their life to save others.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an actor and writer. An an actor I tend to play more hard edged sarcastic characters that give hte story some bit. I have been on some great shows, The Politician, Hollywood, All Rise, This is Us, Bones, Superstore, Scream Queens. I just shot two days on a new Will Smith movie coming out next year. I have learned to love every opportunity to audition and am so grateful to my manager and agents who work really hard to get those opportunities. I wish I had known when I started out how important relationships are with your team. I sincerely love everyone who works with me to open up career opportunities. I am also so grateful that writing fills the holes in between acting opportunities. The hardest part of being an actor is the in between.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to Venice beach not just to people watch or boogie board but to play some of the unique sports there like Paddle tennis. I would spend time hiking in Malibu canyon and walking in Huntington gardens. And I may not be able to resist taking them to Harry Potter land.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My acting coaches Tim Phillips and Doug Warhit not only taught me lifelong acting nuggets of wisdom , but also encouraged and inspired me to never give up. My writing partner Anthony Curry has given me the freedom to say the dumbest idea out-loud believing there is value in everything, My partner Michael Braden who has always supported my work and the risks I have taken. My daughter Elsa GibsonBraden has not only encouraged me but given her loving criticism freely to make my work better.
