We had the good fortune of connecting with Cass Ford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cass, what’s your definition for success?
I’ve been doing a lot of soul work and coincidentally, I recently redefined my definition of success. Success to me is living a joyful life, staying true to my beliefs, living consciously, having fun, working on being less anxious and more present, doing what I want to do each day (not what I ‘should’ do) and feeling more grateful. As a storyteller, for me, success means telling stories that have an impact—that make people think or just give them all the feels and help them escape or unwind.

For a long time, success to me meant gaining and achieving material things—more money, more senior job titles, more best-selling books, buying a house… But it became exhausting. I’m already a success and I deserve to be happy every day, not only once I’ve achieved certain things. Plus, once you achieve them, it’s never enough—you’ll keep wanting more and you’ll never let yourself be happy.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I tell sexy, daring, hot, edgy, fun romance stories that hopefully make readers think, but most importantly, give them ‘all the feels’ to help them escape, fantasize or unwind.

My first novel, Prince of Sin, is an erotic romance novel that takes place in the porn world. It explores the porn industry thoughtfully and from a feminist perspective, while still being totally steamy and smutty and fun. It was a best-seller on Amazon and was a 2020 Independent Audiobook Awards finalist, which I’m extremely proud of. Currently, I’m working on an erotic, new-adult romance that follows a carefree, fiery vacation fling back to real life.

It’s been nearly two years since I released my first novel and it used to worry me that so much time was passing without a follow up. I have a fulltime day job that I enjoy, where I also get to tell stories, so I don’t always have the time or energy to work on my novels. Recently, I’ve relearned to enjoy the fun of the writing process again. Stressing about “how will I do it all” or “I’ll never finish”—it’s bullshit and it paralyzes me. I’d rather be creating, slow and steady, than wasting my time worrying about not creating.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many places to take friends when they visit me in Los Angeles! Temescal Canyon is my favorite hike in the city, so I often take visitors there. I love sharing the endless ocean views with friends.

Laurel Hardware is my go-to dinner and drinks spot for guests. The share plates and cocktails are delicious, plus the garden patio has a swanky yet relaxing vibe. And after dinner, we can grab more drinks and mingle at the bar. Café Laurent is my favorite brunch spot to take friends. It’s in Culver City and also has a chill patio.

Another thing I love doing when friends visit, especially if they’ve been to LA before and have seen the standard tourist spots, is take them on day or weekend getaways. One of the best things about LA is how easy quick trips are. I’ve taken visitors to Santa Barbara, San Diego, Laguna Beach, Newport, Big Bear, Palm Springs… even a day out in Malibu or the South Bay for a different scene. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To all the badass women before me who broke the rules and dared to step outside the boxes they were told to stay in, thank you for paving the way.
