We had the good fortune of connecting with Cassie Boettcher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cassie, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking is so important. It’s one of the hardest and scariest things ever but also one of the most satisfying things one can do for themselves. If I wouldn’t have taken the risk to move to Los Angeles randomly without a job, I probably still would’ve been living in my same small hometown. Risk taking is essential, especially for creative people. When we’re willing to take risks to make the art that we make, we impact and inspire others!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a singer-songwriter and this journey has not been easy! It’s taken years to pursue music while also working full-time and trying to balance a social life. But that’s the key, balance! If you don’t balance what you’ve got going on in your life, things can easily spiral out of control. Prioritizing art and creativity is also important. You can’t wait for inspiration to strike – you have to force yourself to do it. It’s hard to make yourself sit down and be creative when you might not be “feeling it” that day, but it helps you hone the craft and keep working on it. That’s what I’ve been so focused on recently – honing my craft, writing with everyone that I can write with, and trying to get as much experience as I can. As songwriters, we tell stories. I want everything I do to be working toward that goal – telling stories the best way that I know how, through song.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In a non-Covid world, I have so many favorite spots. My ideal day would be a morning stop at an estate sale in the area (LA’s got great ones), a trip to the Iliad in North Hollywood for some used books, and then stopping over at El Tejano in NoHo for some drinks. The best evenings are going to Luv2eat Thai in Hollywood and then heading over to The Hotel Cafe for a night of music by some of the best acts in the city. I also love beach days in Malibu! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family, best friends in the whole entire world, my therapist, and my dog, Cooper.
