Meet Cassius King | I am a Director, Producer, and Specialty Motions Operator.
We had the good fortune of connecting with Cassius King and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cassius, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m Cassius, born and raised in the Bay Area, now residing in Los Angeles, CA. Founder of The Cinema Junkies and Improvized Rentals (a subsidiary of Improvized Productions, LLC.) based out of LA. President at Future Filmmaker Foundation, a non profit organization devoted to working with underserved kids and communities. I’ve always had a passion for expressing myself through visual story storytelling. I have a deep admiration for movies and films that can draw out all kinds of emotions. I come from a construction background and understand that the tools I use are also a direct reflection of how much pride I take in my craft. I want the best tools possible that will make my job easier and provide the look I need for what is intended from a cinematography aspect.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Cinema Junkies was formed out of necessity to accommodate large or small independent productions allows access and provides a roadmap into more than your typical video production with the inclusion of Specialty Motion for these projects. Specialty Motion includes an arrangement of systems that provide cinema camera movement and motion, which translates into emotional storytelling. We train rigorously on these systems and are always looking for the most efficient ways of operating our systems along with providing full production support, from pre to post. This is the hardest company I have put together simply because Specialty Motion requires a lot of hours of training. When we are not running full productions, clients hire us as Specialists to come in and execute the specialty shots in a few takes just to cover something specific they need. When our clients hire us for full production, we get to deploy specific systems based on those project needs. This is extremely helpful when executing on client projects and visions. I believe The Cinema Junkies to be the next best thing to hit LA with the ability to adapt to a multitude of situations and flexible enough to accommodate all of our clients, big and small.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I specifically enjoy going to Gyu Kaku in Burbank. This is an awesome place that I always refer as a place to decompress. the next runner up we have is The Ramp in Burbank. Another great place to eat, have some drinks and then decompress with the team for the week.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate this shoutout to a specific someone. She’s been there since Day 1 one on every endeavor. She’s backed and supported every dream and goal that we had set forth. She’s been through good and bad times, as well as all the ups and downs in between. She has grown and continues to grow in every aspect of life. She’s been a great partner and now seeing her as a leader gives me great comfort. She is the best mom these kids could have asked for. She is my high school sweetheart and life partner and new fiancé. She completes me and makes me whole. She is my Queen, She is Aja Brown.
