We had the good fortune of connecting with Cat Rendic and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cat, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic career in great part by the fact that both my parents were in the industry. My mother was a performer- singer, comedian, actress, and dancer. In Chile she was a famous show woman. My father was a television director and producer. When we moved to Miami, my mother produced for a show on Univision and both my parents opened up a Latin musical theatre studio. Though I was shy the first years, eventually I joined in on classes and there began my career. By 10 years old I was working in a kids segment on television, and I loved it!

Watching my parents create day and night was the fuel for me and my career. It’s truly all I’ve ever known.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Hi, my name is Cat Rendic and I am a creator.

I started working on television as a dancer when I was 9. I have been in this industry for many years, and my love for my craft grows deeper as they pass. Having both parents in the entertainment industry shaped who I would become. My mother was a show woman in Chile (where I was born)- she was a comedian, singer, actress, dancer and eventually moved on to produce and creative direct television. My father was a TV director and producer as well as a creative director.
To be honest, creating is all I’ve ever know. From a young age I fell in love with performing and learned that it took discipline, hard work, and passion to grow as an artist. Once we moved to Miami from Santiago, Chile my parents opened up a musical theatre studio, therefore training and engulfing myself in the arts was an everyday thing.

My career as a professional dancer began at the age of 18, and I was both choreographing and dancing through most of my time in Miami with artist like Pitbull, Daddy Yankee, Shakira, Don Omar, Wisin y Yandel, Luis Fonsi, amongst many others. The latin music industry was my home, and shaped me as an artist. I eventually made the move to LA at 22 looking to reach new goals and stages! Working with Artist, choreographers and dancers that I looked up to was an absolute dream come true! I reached my dreams and found myself experiencing things I hadn’t even dreamt of. I toured the world with Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, Ricky Martin, Jason Derulo, Justin Bieber, and Beyoncé to name a few.

Creating was always something I had done. Though my career as a professional backup dancer was taking off in LA, I continued to work as an assistant choreographer. Through this time I learned from the best and in turn found my unique voice in the industry. It feels like one day I woke up and I decided to focus fully on choreographing but in retrospect, everything I had done had led me to this next step in my career and here I am today.

Choreographing and collaborating with the likes of Becky G, Ricky Martin, Nicki Minaj, Tyga, J Balvin and others has been one of my greatest joys. I have also become passionate about teaching and educating dancers. Through the pandemic I created my own training/mentorship program called Formyoula. This program has been so powerful and fruitful for me. It has connected me with my community of dancers on another level, I’ve been pushed and inspired, and have added another layer of depth to my craft. I teach from my experience incorporating yoga and mindfulness. My mission is to help dancers find their own voices while encouraging them to focus on their mindset. To me, to create is a humans life’s purpose and this beautiful art form has given me that my entire life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, there is so much to share with friends when they travel. If they are in town on a lucky Sunday when the Rose bowl Flea market is open that would be a favorite destination to show them. Also the farmers market to get some produce, and flowers. If we are interested in eating out, a meal at SAGE or Pura Vita! To enjoy some time out, a sunset in Malibu is stunning, or a couple of hours at the park. I love hosting friends therefore, cooking and spending time at home is a must! Other activities are going to a coffee shop, a bookstore, or a thrift shop. If time permits, camping about 2/3 hours away from LA is something I highly recommend. Lastly, live music and going dancing is a favorite activity to share with friends.

I love Los Angeles for its weather, its vegan food variety, and for its puppy loving and inclusivity!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
