We had the good fortune of connecting with Catelyn Richard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Catelyn, what do you attribute your success to?
Being cool with failing has been the biggest factor behind my success. I’ve never lost anything by willingly putting myself in the position to fail, but I’ve been blessed with my biggest opportunities by doing so.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a creative portrait & fashion photographer. I have been shooting for just over 4 years now. I think my editing style and angles set me apart from other photographers in my niche. My creativity has brought me places that I never would’ve guessed that I would’ve gone if you would’ve asked me some years ago. For example, I’ve gotten flown out to Colombia to go shoot for a traveling company, my work has been showcased at the Orlando International Airport, and I also won a couple hundred bucks in a photography contest one time.
When people look at my work, I want them to see that art is in everything and can be made anywhere.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my bestie is in town we’d definitely have to hit up Universal Studios and Citywalk, CityArts Gallery in downtown, the clear kayaking tour at Kelly Springs Park, Gringos Locos Tacos and AC Sky Bar for food, Lake Eola Farmers Market, Hanson’s Shoe Repair and the Robinson Room for drinks, and take a day trip to Epperson Lagoon near Tampa.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my biggest fan and twin sister, Courtney. Even when I doubt my creativity, because all artists do at some point, she never does. She also never fails to be honest with me whenever I ask for constructive criticism. It’s made me a better artist and my work has improved because of it. Thanks Court! You’re the best!
