We had the good fortune of connecting with Cayla Renee’ and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cayla Renee’, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In college, i was always unsure of my personal reasons for being enrolled. i was the student that changed my major a few times before I found my “reason” for higher education. After switching from history to art, I stumbled on business as a major and fell in love. After Ace-ing my entrepreneurship class I knew starting a business was my calling. I embraced the free thinking, creativity, and freedom in entrepreneurship and I felt like jumping right into creating my own business would be right for me. So proud that my business is still thriving 8 years later so I can see and feel that it was the best decision for my life!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
This year I am proud to be celebrating 8 years of providing my unique swimwear design to hundreds of women around the world. When I created the Drip Swimsuit, i had no idea that it would inspire so many other women to be confident, and secure with their bodies just by the fit and feel of my design. As a business owner, I can confirm that the journey of an entrepreneur can face rocky roads, storms, and an array of emotions on a daily basis, however, for every setback and failure there is an even bigger win on the other side. I have been forced to grow personally, spiritually, and emotionally as a person because of my choice to be an entrepreneur, and I believe the resilience and confidence Ive gained over the years is because of Drip Swimwear. I learned to overcome the challenges by simply not giving up, not taking no for an answer, and not letting doubt, fear, or anxiety run me. I want the world to know that Drip Swimwear is the embodiment of self confidence.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love a beautiful scenery, and one of the best parts about living in Los Angeles is that we have some gorgeous places to hangout from the beach to mountains. If my best friend was visiting our itinerary would look something like this :

Breakfast at Toast Bakery on 3rd ( i love their coffee cake crusted french toast and everyone should try!)
Then we would hit sunset to hangout at the Mondrian pool with a resort pass, because whats a sunny day in L.A without the pool?
I find inspiration at the mall, from the people watching to the store inventory so visiting the beverly center is a must in the name of fashion!
I spend a ton of time by the beach, riding bikes, or just admiring the coast. one of my favorite areas to hang out is Redondo Beach, King Harbor, there’s fun water activities, boats, and great restaurants so we would definitely have to spend a day exploring.
Lastly, I have a few street food places that I cannot live without, one is called Papi’s tacos on Jefferson, and they have the BEST Birria tacos in town, pus their nutella churros cant be beat!
My second favorite eatery is a taco truck called El Chatos, on Olympic and LaBrea, their known for using their family recipe to create the perfect taco !
You cant visit LA without hiking one of the many trails our city offers, Im a personal fan of the trail at Kenneth hahn state park, its both beautiful and challenging!
And to end our week together I would take my bestfriend a few miles from La to Balboa island in Newport beach, you have to take a short ferry ride across the harbor to get to this small island filled with great restaurants, rides, and the cutest beach vibes fit for a Cali Girl!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I remember when I started my business I wished I had a mentor to teach me how to personally overcome the obstacles ( like failure, rejection, and doubt) that came along with being an entrepreneur. Ive always had the support of my friends and family but they didn’t always know how to guide me emotionally and mentally, so I depended on self help books too strengthen my business mindset. One of best books that motivated me early on was a book titled ” Successful Women Think Differently” by Valorie Burton. The author admirably breaks down 9 habits that successful, resilient, and happy women use in business and life, and it changed my entire perspective on my life. To this day, I carry the words, experiences, and lessons Valorie Burton introduced to me in that book, and this time I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to her, and all the amazing authors who create books with the entrepreneur in mind!
