We had the good fortune of connecting with Cerissa Aguirre and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cerissa, how do you think about risk?
I am someone who believes that if you’re not enjoying what you’re doing in life, then you have to take inspired action to change things even if it means taking a risk. No matter what your dreams are, or how old you are, you have to take risks. It’s never too late to change your outcome. If you don’t, you will wake up at 80 years old living in regret. No risk, no story. This is how I live my life now. If you’re just starting out, it’s ok to have a regular job while you pursue your dreams, but you have to still put in work towards your goals. In the long road I try to make money in ways that are in alignment with my purpose and make me happy, because that’s what life is all about. It’s a balance of living and enjoyment, and also dedication and hard work. Don’t lose sight of the meaning of life trying to chase validation and material gains. Remember that this is your personal journey, and don’t compare your life with anyone else’s. Don’t lose faith, and have faith in yourself! And most importantly, don’t quit and never give up. I now find myself closer to Christ than ever before because of my hard times and set backs. Taking risks is apart of life because life is uncertain and the only way to grow is to get out of our comfort zone.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a Mexican American Actress and creative Entrepreneur born in San Jose, California. At the age of 13 I already knew I wanted to become an Actress. My family and I moved from a small town called Lathrop to Los Angeles when I was 18 to pursue a better life and be close to Hollywood. During the 2020 pandemic lockdown I passed the time with a friend and mentor who helped teach me to film and edit my own long form videos because I wanted to start a YouTube channel. It was a great way to distract myself with something positive during that dark and scary time. I was determined to take full advantage of that time to better myself in many ways. I craved the ability to have full creative control and to be able to create my own content from start to finish. It’s the best feeling to see your vision come to reality even better than you first imagined. I’m currently focused on Acting and Modeling and in the social media space I am focused on my new Podcast coming out soon, my Youtube Channel, and UGC – user generated content. I am passionate about using my digital platforms to continue to help encourage my community. I want to continue to create content that helps other people live their best life, while giving the glory to God because I want people to find the true source of fulfillment, and learn from my mistakes by sharing what has transformed me. We have a range of complex human emotions, adversity and struggles, so I love sharing content about healing our nervous system through faith, self development, and mindset tips. I’m currently working on digital products such as; ebooks, online courses, and this year I want to facilitate more in person Sound Baths.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Westside of LA! I’m a beach girl and I love living by the beach, so anything with an ocean view is what I recommend. I’ll start with Santa Monica, Elephante is a nice spot for lunch or dinner. King & Queen Cantina for a fun vibe with Mexican food. La La Land coffee shop is also a cute trendy place to grab a coffee. Next there’s Malibu, Nobu for some bougie social media content. Moonshadows also has an amazing view to dine at. Paradise Cove is a beautiful spot to relax, eat, and enjoy a full beach day. Neptune’s Net if you want to relive a famous scene from the Fast and Furious movie after a day at Leo Carrillo Beach. Lastly, Venice and Marina Del Rey are great to walk around the boardwalk or Abbot Kinney to people watch, shop, rent a bike, or go rollerblading.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this to my Grandma Apolina Pena Torres who just passed away. You were a loving, sweet woman, with a big heart. Her birthday is just two days before mine, so I feel we are similar in a lot of ways, and I understood her mindset a lot. She was a strong woman who helped raise me when I was young. Some of my earliest memories were of her babysitting me, cooking me delicious Mexican food, watching TV, and having fun together playing games with my cousins until my parents could pick me up from work. I know she raised my Dad well too. Both of my parents had loving mothers and all my success has come from my Mom and Dad too. It’s all generational success. My success is their success. I know all of their sacrifices, and all of my grandparents’ sacrifices have brought me here today, writing this now. I wouldn’t be who I am today without all of their love, support, and encouragement. Lastly, I can’t forget a select few family members, and my mentors, I couldn’t be where I am today without you all, including Milo, you have been by my side and your emotional support and companionship bring me true joy everyday. Thank you God for this opportunity, all your blessings, and allowing me to share my testimony and showing me how all things work together for good because of my faith in you.
