Meet Cesar Gamiz | Professional Makeup artist and Social Media Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cesar Gamiz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cesar, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I am not cut out for the confines of an office or the monotony of a 9-5 grind. My soul yearns for a life painted with the vibrant hues of creativity and expression. Embracing my artistic journey has been more than just a career choice; it’s a testament to my belief that I am destined for greatness. Balancing a traditional job with my passion for makeup artistry has shown me where my true happiness lies. In the realm of art and production, I am not content with being a mere participant – I am destined to shine as the star. Creating captivating content isn’t just a hobby; it’s a gateway to making a meaningful impact on the world. I am driven by a desire to inspire change, to ignite imagination, and to leave a lasting impression through my artistic endeavors. This is my calling, and I am ready to seize every opportunity to make my mark on the world. My aspirations transcend mere makeup and media production; they are rooted in a deep desire to authentically express myself and create a platform for others to do the same. This isn’t just about pursuing a career; it’s about embracing my true self and using my artistic endeavors as a vehicle for change and inspiration. I am driven by the vision of a world where authenticity reigns supreme and creativity knows no bounds. My journey isn’t just about makeup; it’s about making a statement, leaving a legacy, and finding fulfillment in every everything I do.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been a part of the beauty industry since the age of 15. Back in 2017, I jumped on the makeup bandwagon and haven’t left since. From Quinceañera makeup to weddings to working on professional sets, my versatility has set me apart from others. Usually, someone will book with me and ask for the current trendy look, and that’s music to a makeup artist’s ears. That’s an easy day, I would say, but I thrive when I get to be creative, unique, and have more creative control. So, being able to adapt from a soft glam look to an abstract editorial glamorous style of makeup and applying innovative techniques in my soft glam clients is what makes my makeup stamp uniquely great!
I’ll add that it wasn’t always glamorous. Everyone starts as a beginner, a baby makeup artist, and let me tell you, some looks that I did should never see the light of day again. But I’m still glad to look in the archives and be proud of my growth. There was plenty of practice on myself; those 3 am glam sessions really paid off. Thanks to my friends for letting me use them as muses. Doing makeup with Amazon brushes in those days could pass as using push brooms.
I will say building clientele was very difficult in the beginning. I thought I would never get people to pay me for makeup. Offering to do makeup for free so people could see my work and expose myself some more is the sacrifice I was willing to make because I was passionate about makeup and knew where I wanted to take it! Some lessons I learned were that people are not all great; unfortunately, people in brands and individuals will take advantage of you and your talents. Because I started at a young age, I was often underestimated, and that led to being underpaid. And as much as I love doing makeup and could do it for free, I’ve worked with brands that did not respect my working rates. So, I had to put my big boy pants on and advocate for myself so I was taken seriously. I would advise everyone in whatever you do to always be sure in yourself and follow through with whatever boundaries you set because that will make you a boss!
While being a makeup artist, I’ve become more and more in tune with media content. Getting into makeup took me into a wormhole, and I have very similar stories and instances happen in all I’ve done. After getting into makeup, I wanted to become a content creator and just live a life like Paris Hilton in the early 2000s, and I still pursue that. I am now hosting a podcast with my best friend Jorge called the ‘GO AWF PODCAST’ where we talk about quite literally everything we want to go off about. And just like makeup, I’m passionate about the podcast we’ve created because it always aims to have fun and open room for more opportunities! Makeup opened all of my doors. I’m so blessed to have a passion that is saturated in everything. My options are endless

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Picture this: our day kicks off with a legendary brunch at the Butcher, Baker, Cappuccino Maker – where every bite is a taste of heaven and every conversation is pure magic. After fueling up, we hit the beach for some serious sun-soaking and beachside fun, catching waves and soaking up the vibe. But the real excitement starts when we head to West Hollywood. At Tom Tom’s, we sip on the most Instagram-worthy cocktails, rubbing shoulders with celebs and influencers like it’s just another day in paradise. And when the night’s still young, we retreat to our best friend’s place, where the energy is electric, and the party never stops. Trust me, you won’t want to miss out on a day like this!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Mother! There have been plenty of individuals who have impacted my life greatly, but there’s no love like my mom’s unconditional support. Anytime I want to start something, she’s there to guide and uplift me. Without her, I wouldn’t have the courage to pursue my dreams. She’s an icon in her own right; if anyone deserves a reality show, it’s her! Charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent – I’ve adopted all these traits from her, and for that, I’m forever grateful. I hope she sees this and shares it everywhere. MARTHA, I love you!
On the topic of family, my brother is also a serious badass. He’s taught me that success doesn’t come without hard work, something we’ve all picked up from our dad. And I can’t forget to mention my sister, Elizabeth, who’s like a second mother to me. She’s been my biggest cheerleader every step of the way. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have such great examples of greatness in my family. As the youngest, I’ve inherited the best pieces to become a beacon of excellence. I’m proud to say that it all stems from my family – they’re the best support system I could ever imagine. Family doesn’t always mean blood. I’ve also, by luck, curated the perfect chosen family; my best friends have given me so much encouragement and pushed me to my limits without letting me look like a fool, especially my best friend Karla, who is most of the time behind the camera of my best pictures
