Meet Chad Webber | Owner of Racer Tea

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chad Webber and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chad, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I took it day by day. My first farmers market ended with me making $30. With that, I was able to buy a steak dinner that night. I figured I just had to do it again the next day and I could eat again. Then do it again and eventually it would gain enough to the point I didn’t have to work for anyone ever. I shifted my mindset to create an impression, not just sell a product and that’s what catapulted me to a higher level.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Racer Tea is transforming the way Redondo Beach does tea. A cup of Racer Tea is more than a great product — it’s an experience. Tea is an art and we pride ourselves on being master craftsmen.
Instead of the tired traditional bags, our customers get a freshly brewed cup of smooth, flavorful, oat milk latte deliciousness. Using only the highest quality loose leaves sourced from around the world, each flavor is steeped at a particular temperature and time before being gently sweetened for that bold, robust Racer flavor. Gone are the days of sipping watered-down, uninspiring tea. With the Racer Tea brand a raging success, our flagship store celebrating 2+ years in business, we’re taking this tradition to the next level. Come along for the ride!
This venture was not easy and it seemed almost every day I would wake up asking myself ‘am I crazy? Can I get people to go nuts over one of the oldest drinks to date?’ It all started out of a van and taking it to various spots throughout LA during covid is what got my name out there. I wanted to perception of tea to be looked at as a powerful drink that can heal, energize, relax or keep us focused throughout our daily lives. It has just been marketed and served incorrectly in the United States. My goal is to change that. Show others how the rest of the world drinks tea and provide a unique spin on such an age old tradition.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I definitely stick to the coastal areas. The South Bay is absolutely beautiful with hikes and breathtaking beaches. Riding around on a motorcycle is the preferred way. We would start at Racer Tea of course and fuel ourselves with a delicious oat milk latte, then would snag a breakfast burrito from Barans, a Michelin rated restaurant in Hermosa. Then a ride around the Palos Verdes peninsula, which in spots overlooks Long Beach.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This wouldn’t have started if it weren’t for my friends Richard and Rachel who encouraged me to sell the tea beverages I was making for myself. It was their encouragement that made me believe. I also would like to shoutout my brother and sister in law. They knew it would work and out their faith in me! And to all those that were open minded enough to try tea from this van, thank you!
