We had the good fortune of connecting with Chanel Marie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chanel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Prior to starting my business, it was my passion. It still is, but I started doing it because I was good at it and loved using my creativity and skills to transform people. During this time, I worked numerous retail jobs- which I hated. So as I continued doing hair and makeup on the side I got more inquiries and started charging.. and then realized I was making more money doing what I loved and it was up from there.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Aside of doing hair and makeup I also have my own extensions and line of products and tools which is what I’m super excited about.

My versatility is what sets me apart from others. Typically you come across people in the beauty industry that only do one or two things but I consider myself the “Jill of all trades” which is pretty cool.

I got to where I am today honestly just by my skills, customer service, and work ethic. My work and personality always speaks for itself and my clients do a great job at referring others to me. It definitely wasn’t easy and still isn’t. The industry is a lot different now which makes it harder to stand out sometimes but that doesn’t stop me.

My story is very long and still being written.. but if I had to let the world know one thing about my brand it would be that our top priority is to uplift and motivate. I’m all about feeling good so at the end of the day I want every client not only to look good, but also feel good.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start off by taking her to all the major landmarks here in LA and sightsee. Of course visit the beaches. Then go visit Kateen for food and one of the elite rooftop bars for drinks. I love a good shopping trip so visit one of my favorite spots which is Century City. To top it all off spend a day at Disneyland!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this to anyone that has ever supported me in any way from the beginning until now. Especially all of my loyal clients that have been with me throughout the years no matter what! Also, my mom for paying my tuition for cosmetology school.. wouldn’t be possible without her.
