We had the good fortune of connecting with Changjuanyong Liu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Changjuanyong, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I hope I can be remembered as the pioneer of a new wave.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It feels like I just started telling people I wanted to make movies when I was 19 years old; I’m not sure why I wanted to make movies in the first place. Even my parents still experience strange emotions whenever they find that their child is in the filmmaking business. At UC Davis, where I discovered my passion as a director, I chose to major in cinema and digital media. I like talking to others and describing the picture in my head to them. I adore creating powerful and moving images. I applied to LMU to major in film production since I knew UC Davis wouldn’t be sufficient for me and I wanted to continue honing my skills. Where I made many friends who are as enthusiastic as I am, which led to the creation of our own production studios in Shanghai and Los Angeles. Looking back, it was not an easy ride; coming to a different world with a different face. I must adapt a bunch of things to get to where I am.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am literally staring at this question for 10 mins. I guess I really have no life haha. I would say Rowland High; there is a temple called Hsi Lai temple, a nice place, the biggest buddha temple in town, worth a trip. Besides, there are a ton of delicious Chinese food restaurants there, and boba too.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Haha very cool. I want to Shoutout to my family especially my parents who have been supporting me throughout the years. It is definitely one of the biggest motivations for me to keep going after what I love.
