We had the good fortune of connecting with Chantell Dennis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chantell, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?

When launching Simply Organized Co., my husband and I sat down to review what my weekly schedule should look like. As a wife and mom of three little ones, having a balanced work / home life is very important to me.  Initially, I was working sporadically, and would have different times I would work from my computer or phone. At some point, I realized that my attention was divided and I was spending more time thinking of and focusing on work than I should. So, I adjusted to a consistent schedule. I have specific days that I work on location, times that I set to work from home, and days that I spend just focusing on my family.

Growing up, I watched my parents prioritize our family and each other, even as successful entrepreneurs themselves. Having this modeled to me, showed that you can work hard and hustle, while still prioritizing the people and things that are most important to you.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

As an organizer, I am invited into people’s homes and personal spaces – spaces that they are not necessarily proud of in that moment. Part of my process is sitting down with my client to go through their personal items/belongings and “editing.” This includes either donating, or throwing out items that are no longer used or working, and only keeping those that they love and/or are necessary. Working together develops a trust not only in the process, but in me as an individual. I have found that being compassionate and a good listener can go a long way in helping the day go smoother. The best part is, a few hours later, their space is completely transformed into something that we are both proud of!

There are many different and talented organizers in my field, especially right now with it’s rise in popularity due to The Home Edit show. However, I believe what sets our company apart is our ability to not only design a functional space, but a space that is beautiful as well. We understand that each home and family is unique, which is why it is important to get to know our client and how they live, before tailoring a customized plan. We are firm believers that when your space looks beautiful and functions well, you are more likely to maintain it.

When I first started out. I organized as many spaces for family and friends (free of charge) as I could to get experience and build my portfolio before officially launching Simply Organized Co. Thankfully, several were gracious enough to be my “guinea pigs”  and provide honest and helpful feedback! This gave me plenty of content when I launched, and invaluable experience in the space planning, design, and product knowledge this job requires.

As a true introvert, one of the hardest things for me was putting myself out there. Connecting with people through Instagram stories, posting photos and videos of projects I had completed, and offering my services for hire, was one of the scariest things I have ever done! However, with the support of several key people around me, I learned to not let my fears get the best of me, and trust that by doing what I love and am passionate about, people will be drawn to it. Since then, our company has grown with several employees and even expanded to another state!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh so many things!

I am a sucker for a good facial/massage, so the first thing we would do is visit our local Spa, The Ivy.

Next, we would visit Old Town Newhall to dine at either Old Town Junction or The Newhall Refinery. This newly refurbished area is Santa Clarita’s Arts and Entertainment district and usually has some sort of fun event happening weekly.

Of course you can’t come to California without visiting the beach! So we would spend a day soaking up the sun in Newport Beach.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband has been my biggest supporter through all of this. When I thought I would come up short or fail, he was always there – encouraging and believing in me even more than I believed in myself. He has taken numerous long trips to the store with me so I could buy product for clients, and watched the kids when jobs went long. He has sacrificed so I could succeed, and I am forever thankful to him for that!
