We had the good fortune of connecting with Charles Massabo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charles, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
When I was a teenage I had surgery for peritonitis, leading to months at home. A friend introduced me to Cubase, so I started recording guitars and diving into music production. In France, I wanted to blend Electronic music and Rock, but the local scene didn’t match, I was feeling out of place.

Years later I went to California and collaborated with Falling In Reverse on “Just Like You,” infusing my unique “euro” synths. This led to my music production and songwriting career, culminating in my own studio in Los Angeles, where I still collaborate with Falling In Reverse.

4 years ago while working on a song for my friend Lexus, I met Pasqual Rotella, who urged me to become a DJ and promote my music, marking my entry into the Electronic scene. Last year, with no DJ experience, I shared stages with Diplo, Tchami, Malaa, and Steve Aoki, even performing at EDC Las Vegas 2022. I co-founded “Grailed Records” with my friend CT, supporting my musical pursuits.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a mix of Chris Lake, Wax Motif and Slanders with a punk rocker attitude. About challenges, I think switching back from production to an artist has been a good experience. Usually, I’m given a task, and I get it done. But when faced with the Kallaghan project, I realized that despite liking various sounds, I had to choose one to present to the audience. The bass house, built on bass riffs, seemed closest to rock for me. It allowed me to keep the rock energy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In this order : Saddle Ranch, Soho House Malibu and Ikea
