Meet Charlie Newhart | Believer, Comedian, Actor, Writer and Educated Hoodrat

We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlie Newhart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Charlie, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I don’t always tell my kids about my successes, I tell them about my failures too. I believe in transparency. At age appropriate times I tell my kids about my mistakes and what they cost me so they can hopefully avoid those pitfalls. Also, during family meetings I ask them, “what did you fail at this week?” If you didn’t fail at anything during the week that means you didn’t really try to succeed.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
At the age of 15 I was diagnosed with Cancer and I was forced to stop playing Sports. After 2 surgeries and 8 months of chemo, Jesus healed me. My family prayed for me and my parents saw that I couldn’t play sports anymore. They wrote a stage play that we performed at our church and wrote in a comedic character for me that gave me room to Improv. That day I caught the acting bug and haven’t looked back since. When I was 23 I was shot and nearly killed in front of my kids. It was a difficult time in my life yet again my family was there to support. During this time I wrote and starred in my own stage plays that were inspired by my real life events. Later in life I wrote a book, got an Agent and started booking Guest star roles on TV shows like Chicago PD and Star Trek-Picard. I’ve also done several National commercials for brands like Pepsi and Optima Tax Relief. Along this journey I’ve been touring the country as a stand-up Comedian and doing online content on my Youtube channel. I’m currently taking meetings and shopping a script on a TV show I wrote about Detroit with my friend and gifted Writer, Josh Gibert. We believe the TV show will change the landscape of TV. Although all this is great I must say that who I am and what I do are two different things. I am a Believer, Father, Exhorter and Story-teller. If anyone desires to pursue a career in Entertainment I have the following to share. There’s only one YOU so be you and embrace all of your life experiences without shame. Trust God and the process. Hollywood is like a fickle Mistress, but God and my family has always been there. If I had to sum up my brand to you I would say, it’s more fulfilling to choose Community and Connection over Celebrity and Corporations….ANYDAY!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hillsong Church in LA or Abundant Living Church in Rancho Cucamonga. Hornblower Cruise in Long Beach or Berkshire House on La Brea for a meal, J-Spot Comedy Club in LA and of course Chik -fil-A.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to God 1st. My parents Wayne and Cheryl. My brother Wayne. My kids. My church home Detroit Worship Center
