We had the good fortune of connecting with Chawa (Hava) Lilith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chawa (Hava), why did you pursue a creative career?
My inspiration to pursue an artistic career has been to inspire people. The thought of being able to give people upliftment, entertainment for their best, and fun and to share energies through performance and music has always been most fulfilling to me. I am an energetic person and I love to take people on a journey with my performances and my music. I love taking them into a space I and we create. Oftentimes it feels good, entertaining, vibrant, happy, but also intimate, thoughtful, to connect on an introspective onto ourselves and life, the ups and downs, the rollercoaster we’re all here on together. It is the most amazing feeling to connect to audiences and people on an emotional level in that way. It is very special, very strong and wonderful for me to be able to do that.
Expressing my visions in my music, my perspectives, outlooks, and experiences of life and having people relate to it and take something out of it for themselves is just amazing. I love to inspire and to share love. And the best, most authentic, and direct way for me to do this is through music, since music doesn’t know any borders or language barriers. Even though songs are written in one language or another, the music itself speaks to everyone on some level.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
With my songs and my compositions I take people right into a world of feelings and emotions. I always had a tendency to write super catchy songs that are a bit different from the mainstream. In my music you will hear the soul of music, the sounds of everything that inspires me in daily life, as well as influences coming from a knowledge we all have within us, something that seems to be ancient. Don’t get me wrong, my music is very contemporary, sometimes avant garde, but always connected to the here and now we live in. I am thrilled to catch my listeners right from the start and feel and see them opening up into the magical world of sounds and songs by listening to my music, or being on one of my shows. I am thriving to, with my music, bring all the passion, love, excitement, joy, and awe that I experience in my life into the hearts of other people and to connect with them on that level.
I came to where I am today by following my heart’s desire of constantly creating songs, of putting life into sound images and stories, and telling my story in music. I keep doing this because it is an inherent calling I feel and follow by writing, releasing, and performing my music continuously.
It definitely has been a challenge on many levels, but I feel the more I am true to who I am and what I love, the more the things come to me and fall into place. I just keep holding on tight to my dream and that gives me the inspiration to do the things that make being a singer-songwriter so exciting.
Along the way, I have learned that you can’t force anything. I have learned that the most important thing is to love and accept and embrace yourself as the artist you are and as the changing personality you become. This can change within a day or a decade. It’s so easy to judge ourselves and others and to think it can only happen one way, but the truth is that there is no right or wrong. There is a calling, a passion, an inspiration, and an action, and this is all it takes.
I want the world to know that I am me. I won’t bend or become anybody else but me for no-one else. I love being versatile and expressing that in and with my whole being. One day it’s pop, another day it’s spiritual, another day it’s crazy, another day it’s sexy, one day it’s just angry, and sometimes all those mixed together. My brand is that I am not a label – in terms of a specific genre. I love many styles of music; and so far my journey has taken me from folk music to world music, to trap and pop, to latin and meditative music, and all of that is an authentic part of myself. I want the world to know that we all can be who we want to be every single day and can make that decision anew, every single day. There is no one who we owe our identity to. We create ourselves as many times and in the ways and shapes we want to. Always. And that is fun.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh wow, there are so many nice spots. I would definitely take my friend on a drive around town, the beach needs to be seen for sure. I love Santa Monica and also Manhattan Beach – super sweet spots to go and spend a lovely day. I would definitely show them Santa Monica Pier. Then, we’d go and spend a great Sunday morning/afternoon at one of my main insider tip places: the Larchmond Farmers’ Market. It is such a cute and amazing area, the venders are amazing, the quality of the food is very good, and you have Groundworks Coffee right there as well as some amazing bakeries and ice cream spots. Definitely a hot insider tip!
I would also take my friend to Runion Canyon, which is super nice to hike and get a great city view. Amazing to have a good workout and enjoy the nature there is in LA.
A Beverly Hills trip would definitely be on the list with a visit at my favorite hairdressers “Adriano’s”. He is a master of his guild and one of the few hair dressers that can actually really handle my curls in a way that is just breathtaking! If you have time you should definitely check out his place on Rodeo Drive! And yes, no shame here to advertise his salon, it is worth the trip. Located in the awesome Beverly Mall right on Rodeo Drive!
We’d go to visit the Studios from Upstart Creative Living, one of the first places I’ve lived in L.A. and created some of my songs and EP’s there. I have had an awesome time and made some really good friends while I was living in this co-living space.
These are some of my hottest spots I would take my friend to.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am blessed for having my mum! She definitely was a huge influence in my life and has supported me always and encouraged me to pursue music; and even if we have had our differences about me making this my main path in my life, she has always been and is still standing behind me as much as she can. I was blessed with some angels that turned up on my path to help me finding my way. I call them angels because they showed up when I needed them: One is my uncle who supported me in a very challenging time as I applied for my artist visa. The others are my good friends and voice coaches Caroline & Mike who have been a big part of my journey so far. And I got support from wonderful, amazing artists, musicians, singers, and fellow producers who have helped me with my musical projects: my sponsors Michael and Tatum. And there are of course the amazingly talented musicians, singers, and dancers whom I prepped performances and organized amazing shows and charity concerts with. I feel that life challenges you on many levels, but it also provides you with the most amazing people if you allow for it.
