Meet Chaz Haye | Business Owner, Clothing Designer & AMFT

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chaz Haye and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chaz, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks is very important, especially in the business. As an entrepreneur and designer, I’m constantly taking risks in making business decisions and producing designs. I’ve learned from every risk I’ve taken, no matter the outcome. I think the goal is to learn from those risks and eventually learn how to take better risks, that bring even bigger rewards.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I’m creating designs for LA Raw, I combine my inspirations with current fashion trends, while keeping in mind our mission statement; for the upliftment of humanity. I’m responsible for most of our graphic designs which all have positive imagery and messaging from an Afrocentric perspective. I’m most excited that LA Raw is participating in the 15% Pledge Pop up inside of Nordstrom the Grove in Los Angeles. We are one of five brands that will be there the weekend of August 25th so it’s a huge honor to be selected. I’ve reached this level professionally by never giving up, learning from the past, and staying in gratitude. The journey hasn’t been easy but it’s been fun and filled with life lessons in patience and perseverance. I’ve also learned that it’s important to create just for yourself and to do things that awaken your inner child. For example, I like to make beaded bracelets and dance to express myself when I’m not designing clothing. It’s important for me to have multiple outlets for creativity.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them on a tour of supporting Black business in Los Angeles, starting with Leimert Park. We’d visit Sole Folks to shop and Harun for coffee. Then I’d take them to Simply Wholesome for lunch and wellness products. I would also take them to the CAAM Museum to see the latest exhibits or attend one of their events. On the weekend, we’d go to one of the Black business pop ups we participate in; such as Black Market Flea or Black on the Block. Both events are fun, exciting, and filled with interesting people. Every event is different and includes live entertainment, DJ’s, and 100+ Black- owned businesses.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shoutout Ferriss Mason. Ferriss has always supported LA Raw through personal purchases and providing business opportunities. She connected us with the store, Sole Folks which has been an important part of our success. Sole Folks connected us to a community of entrepreneurs who have also been supportive in our growth. Also, shoutout to mom! I wouldn’t be able to do any of this work without my mom because of her limitless support. She owns more LA Raw pieces than anyone I know and babysits our son while we vend pop-ups. She’s the best.
