We had the good fortune of connecting with Che Holloway and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Che, what role has risk played in your life or career?
As an artist, as an entrepreneur or even as an individual who has dreams, it is essential to practice risk-taking. There’s an old and common saying that still resonates with me to this day and this saying is “Dreams are just dreams until you take action and do something about it”. What this means to me is that you can have visions or aspirations of achieving your potential, but unless you apply action, the dream will only remain a dream. Research! Sign up for work shops, classes and courses, get involved in whatever community aligns closest to your aspirations, practice, and most importantly never stop believing that you are capable.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What I believe sets me apart from most artists that I know, is my drive to expand in a collaborative way. A lot of individuals I have met, tend to believe that success comes if your cut throat, most folks tend to live by the “me first” attitude and often forget that it took a joint effort to bring the vision to life in the first place. It takes a village and teamwork truly makes the dream work. I’d like to think that the best teacher of my craft is life. Everyday situations, whether they are my own or whether i’m witnessing another’s. Its always a teachable moment. What I happen to be the most proud of, aside from accomplishments in my career is my abiliy to keep getting up, no matter how much I get knocked down in life, I never take no for an answer and I always try again. I have the utmost pride in my tenacity (though sometimes it gets me into trouble haha). Was it easy to get where I am today? When you work at something and never give up and always take risks and make sacrifices it sure can look that way from the outside looking in. But no. It was not easy. I moved to a city where I had to totally rely on myself in so many ways. Id often drop the ball, but Id never give up. Id always get up and try again. I dealt with the struggle of trying to find myself in a world where there are expectations and limitations placed on you. As arduous as this sounds though, Ill never stop looking for my higher purpose or higher potential. So im always challenging myself to be better. No one has the manual to life and we are all just trying to figure this thing out together. What I want people to know about Che Holloway.. is that I will never stop trying to be a better me. I am a work in progress and I may have a hiccup here or there, but im also human and allowed to be just that.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Contrary to belief, I’m a homebody and often have thee BEST time in a familiar and comfortable surrounding. I love being creative at home, whether it’s making music, trying out a new recipe, working out, reading or just lounging around, Im an introvert masking as an extrovert so I do enjoy my own company. If i’m not hanging at home I love to hike trails or be able to soak in the natural beauty that is our earth. I also have a dorky side so I’d offer to play some Playstation or Nintendo. Or lets just converse about nothing and philosophize about everything. I love doing this as well.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are are quite a few people and groups/organizations I would like to shout out, and for different reasons. To kick off my appreciation spree I want to extend my gratitude towards all the friends in my life who have had my back in the most trying of times. I could NOT have gotten this far without them and for this I am truly indebted. Next up, is a series I star in that we shot in my hometown of Rochester, N.Y. now streaming on Amazon Prime called Dark Justice Show (www.darkjusticeshow.com) a timely satire about community policing and race relations within the inner city communities. This is one project I am extremely proud to of had the chance to be a part of and I am so beyond grateful for the opportunity to work on a timeless project that is ahead of its time. The Creator, Mike Gerbino entrusted me the lead role of Amir Johnson, something I will always be honored by. Mike also happens to be a really great lyricist and has some other projects in development worth keeping an eye out for! This next shout out goes to Ron Valderrama of the StreamNow TV App (available on ROKU and Apple TV). When Dark Justice Show was in its early stages, Ron Valderrama was one of the first people to support us in any way he could, Not only is Dark Justice on Amazon Prime, but the show is also on Roku and Apple TV exclusively through the StreamNow TV App! What StreamNow TV is, is basically an indi version of Netflix or HULU. All up and coming filmmakers should definitely get familiar with StreamNow TV as it is on the rise as a stand alone platform! Check it out!
