We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Blue and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chelsea, what are you inspired by?
I am continuously inspired by drag queens I see on RuPaul’s Drag Race, instagram, and out in West Hollywood performing. I am constantly amazed by the creativity of the queens and fashion designers some of them work with. They have inspired me to try and push my own boundaries with fashion. Other sources of inspiration for me are from high fashion runway pieces and general pop culture.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I refer to myself as the ‘Hannah Montana of Hollywood’ because I am a private practice mental health therapist by day, and in my personal time I love dressing up in highly stylized looks, as well as styling others to create a full fantasy. I feel very lucky to have two extremely separate – but equally fulfilling – sides of my life. I got to where I am now by continuing to nurture my creative side in my personal time over the years. Fashion has always been a form of self care for me through entertainment, an outlet for my feelings, feeling confident, or helping other people feel like the most confident version of themselves.
I am so proud of the looks I have styled for music videos, photoshoots, events, live shows, and other forms of entertainment. I am also proud of the clothing and accessories I make, including a series of metallic Breastplates and Chestplates inspired by Tom Ford’s breastplate.
To be honest, there have been difficult periods of near burn-out from therapy and styling respectively but I have been able to find balance through prioritizing my outright need for rest, taking time away, and trying not to judge myself for the natural ebb and flow of energy.
I just turned 31, so another part of my brand is trying to empower others, specifically women, to embrace their personal style at any age, even if it goes against societal norms. Self expression does not have a cut off age. Being sexy does not have a cut off age.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My first recommendation would be to experience the nightlife in West Hollywood. If they are looking for something more relaxing, I would recommend checking out the Getty Villa, spending a day in Malibu, or Soho Warehouse downtown. For shopping, I would also recommend Santee Alley downtown (but please be mindful of your surroundings) and Melrose Trading Post in West Hollywood on Sundays.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have always been into fashion since I was very little but it wasn’t something I saw myself doing professionally, because I never had enough confidence in myself to even try. I was styling increasingly camp looks for myself, when my good friend Ceranda (@ceranda_xo) asked me if I would style her debut music video for her song “Come and Get It.” We have now worked together on 3 of her music videos and multiple live shows, and I will be forever grateful for her belief in me to be her stylist, and the opportunity to express my creativity on a much larger scale. My good friend Devin (@itsdevinhicks), a choreographer and dancer, introduced me to Ceranda and worked with us on all of the music videos and shows, and continues to be very significant source of positive creative influence.
