We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Mee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chelsea, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind my business actually happened pretty quickly and pretty randomly. One day, the idea of starting a Self Tape company in LA just came to me. I’ve been doing my own self tapes out of Tigheland Production’s studio space for so long, and the quality was continuing to get better and better the more I put new ideas into them, suddenly I thought, “Wait a moment, I could do this as a business…” and 5 minutes later, I started building the website: www.selftapingla.com
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Self Taping LA is a premium self taping service in Los Angeles at an affordable price: $1 per minute. I believe what sets us apart from others is this: the quality for the low price. I make sure that with each self tape client they are getting the best quality, look, and sound for their money. It’s been a journey navigating running this business, and I’ve learned so much about offering my clientele the best service possible. They’re not just clients to me, they become my buds. Being an actress myself, we’re all in this together and it feels good to be able to offer something great and give back to the industry in a way. I’ve learned that my biggest challenge can be myself; so once I got out of my own way and made the decision to be a success, suddenly, the business started booming!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Outside (or hopefully after) the pandemic, I would definitely take my best friend to some restaurants. My top favorites in LA: Commerson (Miracle Mile), Ahi Sushi (Studio City), Joe’s Falafel (Universal City), and Midici Pizza (Sherman Oaks). All of these restaurants are not only delicious, but offer such incredible customer service and care that have turned me into a regular!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to say thank you to Roy Tighe at Tigheland Productions, for without him, I wouldn’t have had the physical space and equipment to run my business. Not only do we work together, but he is my boyfriend as well, and he offers much appreciated support and business experience (from running his own production company). I appreciate his partnership all around!
