We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsie Overocker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chelsie, how do you think about risk?

When I hear the word risk the first thing that comes to mind is growth. I think taking the first step and working towards a goal you want to accomplish is bold. I got to where I’m at is by taking risks and being patent with myself. What I learned when taking risks is it dosen’t need to be perfect and there are many different ways to reach your end result. I have made plenty of mistakes when I tried something new for first time and put myself out there. But my mistakes have educated me into becoming the best version of myself. My failures were great lessons to learn, my accomplishments opened the doors to new opportunities, and my dreams are fuel to have me create more milestones for myself.

Risks has played a significant role in my life and career. When I was younger, I felt like risks always had to be a life changing moment but honestly it can also be acknowledging the small victories as well. With my career when I first started broadcasting, I did a lot of side gigs where I would interview artists in the music industry. I remember walking into the events thinking if I could at least get one person to interview then I would be happy. One person interviews turned into multiple that lead into working with a network full time. If we are always waiting for the big moments to happen then we might be missing out on the important steppingstones that lead us to our big wins and always remember without rain nothing grows. Learn to embrace the storms in your life because you will come out stronger in the end.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am currently working with the Hallmark Channel (Hallmark Media) and people are always curious what I do for the network. The department I’m under is social media and I help create the posts and tweets for their platforms. Aside from coordinating Hallmark’s social content, I produce majority of the Facebook Lives with talent and writing interview questions. I travel a lot to cover red carpet premieres and a variety of events. It’s fun getting the opportunity to wear many hats with a network and getting the experience to learn what it takes to make a TV network successful. It was not easy to get where I’m at today and I have faced many challenges along the way but if you are persistent you will get it. If you are consistent, you will keep it. That was the biggest lesson I learned.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There is so many fun things to do in Orange County! My apartment is 10 minutes away from Newport Beach so I would start the day by taking a walk on the beach. They also have many places where you can rent bikes in Newport. So that would be fun to do that as well. I went bike riding on the beach once and had a great time. Something I would like to do soon. There is a great brunch place in Irvine that’s a hidden gem. It’s one of my favorite places to grab a coffee and they have the best avocado toast. The restaurant is called Avocado Cafe. I high recommend checking it out. I am probably the biggest girly girl you will ever meet so of course I will take you to two of my favorite malls in Orange County. I like to go shopping at South Cast Plaza and Fashion Island. While we are at Fashion Island well stop by a new restaurant that opened called Joey’s. If you are in town for the weekend this is the hot spot place to visit in Newport. The atmosphere is amazing, the food is delicious, and they make the best spicy margaritas. I’m guilty of spending too many Saturday nights there with friends. Aside from the amazing shopping and restaurants there are some amazing hiking trails in Laguna that overlooks the ocean that I like to do.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would say I have multiple people in my life I would love to give thanks for and has helped me with all of my continued successes. The first would be the love and encouragement from my family. There has been many times this year where I have seconded guessed myself and my abilities. Sometimes it’s hard to see how far you have come in life until you have a person on the outside to remind you of all of your wins. I wouldn’t be where I’m at without the support of my family and friends. The next thank you would go out to the network I am working at. This month is my two year anniversary with Hallmark Media and after doing some reflection I have seen myself grown. I love how they are providing me with new challenging opportunities. I know the skills I am developing now will help strengthen my career in entertainment.
