We had the good fortune of connecting with Cheri Moon of SNOOKNUK and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cheri, how do you think about risk?
Taking Risks has been a huge part of my Evolution as an Artist, Businessowner, Mother, and as a WOMAN! Since I was a young girl, I always had the audacity to put myself out there. I wanted to sing, so I entered talent competitions, I loved performing so I would join theatre clubs and put together shows, I loved spelling bees so I competed. This continued with me wanting to move to NYC right from college having no family there or anyone. I just visited for a few days and knew that that is where I was meant to be and in a matter of weeks, I moved. Scary move but I had faith and went with my true instincts. Over the course of my years there, I always kept an open mind and would follow any leads I would get. In that city, you run into so many people and one encounter would lead to another or as I say an opportunity. That’s how I looked at it. Of course, I had many moments of discouragement but I wouldn’t let that stop me. Pushing myself and going to an audition even though I felt like crap lead me to book my first of many jobs as a Voice Over and Jingle performer and then leading me into working with phenomenal music producers & artists in the industry. Taking a leap of faith and starting a children’s brand (SNOOKNUK) was a huge decision. But without going for it, I wouldn’t have had amazing experiences like a thriving children’s company, music, and media. And now through more of my creativity, I get to help inspire and celebrate women, foster children’s development of mindfulness & social awareness, and who knows what else will come about as I keep marching along!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m an artist who creates music and content with purpose. With my Children’s Brand, SNOOKNUK, I create songs, videos, & stories to help families teach kids life lessons, social awareness, and mindfulness. I was inspired by my own kids when I started Snooknuk. As a new mother, I kept making up songs to teach my kids basic hygiene, life lessons, and everything you’d want to teach kids. The toddler years can be challenging so I made our daily life into a musical. And we just sang our way through the day. This process made it really fun, so even as they got older and started school I kept going by venturing into topics dealing with social awareness. Now I also collaborate with a lot of Family Music Artists through a community called Family Music Forward. We are creating more content under 1 Tribe Collective. And this is fantastic because I get to work with talented musicians around the country and make a difference with our messages. This new album titled “All One Tribe” with 24 Black Family Music Artists is coming out for JuneTeenth! All of the music can be found on Spotify, Amazon Music & Itunes. My background has always been in music and television. Managed by Jimmy Douglass, I’ve worked with amazing artists such as Timbaland, The Script, Missy Elliott, and more. I’ve performed and written songs for many tv shows and commercials but just recently released a song to inspire and celebrate women titled “Ain’t I A Woman”. *Writing this Anthem was full circle for me as I learned about the speech with the same title by Sojourner Truth in High School.   My grandmother was the one who fully taught me the importance of her speech.  The power of this movement for Women’s rights has stuck with me for many years.  And we have witnessed amazing achievements by women such as Kamala Harris, Stacey Abrams, the Female Nasa Team & so on.   It ultimately inspired me to create, motivate and celebrate women all over the world.
