We had the good fortune of connecting with Chinwe Ohanele and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chinwe, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My perspective on work-life balance has evolved significantly over time, with a growing emphasis on health and well-being. When I first started practicing law, my focus was primarily on building a successful career, often at the expense of my personal life and well-being. The legal profession can be demanding, with long hours, high stress levels, and a culture that sometimes glorifies overwork.

However, as the years have passed, I’ve come to realize the importance of a healthier work-life balance. I’ve seen the toll that chronic stress, burnout, and neglecting one’s physical and mental health can take on lawyers and other professionals. I’ve also seen the impact it can have on the quality of my work and my overall happiness.

I now view work-life balance as a critical component of my legal career, not as a hindrance to success.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Ohanele Law Firm is a Black, woman-led virtual Intellectual Property and Business Law practice. The firm values diverse perspectives, backgrounds, cultures, and identities. As a result, the firm is 100% staffed by women of color.

Furthermore, 90% of the firm’s clients are women of color. The firm motto is that diversity is just good business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
During a week-long trip to Los Angeles with my best friend, I would craft an itinerary that blends cultural experiences, outdoor adventures, exquisite dining, and must-see spots. We’d begin by exploring the historic LA Library downtown branch and then indulge in downtown’s culinary delights. A visit to Santa Monica Beach and Venice Beach for a beach day would follow, and we’d savor beachfront dining. The trip would continue with hikes in Griffith Park, museum visits to the Getty Center and Getty Villa, and outdoor adventures at Lake Balboa and Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook. Our time would be capped with a relaxing beach day in Malibu and an exploration of LA’s Arts District.
