We had the good fortune of connecting with CHRIS DAMON and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi CHRIS, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born and raised in Pittsburgh PA, by a single mother of three boys. Although my brothers and I had to fend for ourselves in many cases, my mom always made sure she made a homemade meal for dinner — I honestly don’t know how she did it. I also spent a good bit of time by myself and had a wild imagination. Wild. This upbringing taught me how to be incredibly independent, resourceful, to take action, to be creative, and yes, to always make sure there’s a homemade meal ready for dinner.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I don’t think it’s a secret that it’s not easy being a free lance artist. There are ebbs and flows creatively and financially for sure. One day you’re set to work on an exciting new project, just to find the next day that the project lost its funding and the whole thing has been scrapped or “postponed.” A lot of being an actor in Hollywood, is putting yourself out there, then basically trying to forget that you did, as some sort of self preservation. With that being said, and where I certainly don’t give myself enough credit for — and what I am most proud of — is my ability to adapt and persevere. I always say to myself, “everything could change today.” I hold every opportunity very dear and do not take anything for granted.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I was planning a weeks long itinerary of my favorite spots in the city, I would certainly start with the beach! Point Mugu woud be my first stop, for a nice long day trip of sun, sand, grilling and bonfire. As a long time vegan, we would have to explore all my favorite vegan spots including; O’cado Restaurant in Sherman Oaks and the new Hey, Sunshine Kitchen in Culver City. Griffith Park is a must for a great hike, visiting the observatory, grabbing the best dirty chai latte from Trails Cafe, and if we’re lucky enough — see a great live band at The Greek Theatre.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
They say, “it takes a village”, and I couldn’t agree more. I would have to shoutout to literally everyone I have ever worked with on a creative project and every teacher and coach who have given their wisdom and time. I learn by doing, by observing, and I tend to be a sponge in every creative scenario. Each production or project gives me the tools for the next, so I would be amiss if I didn’t have gratitude for every opportunity, every department, everyone single person I have crossed paths with while pursuing a successful creative career.
