Meet Chris Faiss | Furniture maker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Faiss and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, how do you think about risk?
In terms of building and maintaining a business, most decisions can be said to have a certain amount of risk in that all these decisions have unknown outcomes. Might help, might hurt, might not make a difference. A key is to have a realistic idea of the range of outcomes and what effect they will have on you and your ability to keep building. It’s fine to have the dream of big success, but, for the most part, that success comes from a multitude of little daily successes. Did I have a positive exchange with a customer, did I learn a new skill, did i complete the thing on my to-do list that I loath doing, did I take the extra time I thought I didn’t have to work and rework a new idea? All these tasks entail small risks in that you are exposing yourself, investing in yourself, admitting that you always have things to learn, acknowledging that a business requires embracing not only the fun parts but also the tedious parts. Each tiny risk along the way can prove to you that you have the nerve to keep moving forward almost to the point where you don’t even consider them risks, but just part of doing business. And all this prepares one for the inevitable bigger risks down the road, where the mental skills have all been honed and proved capable of processing all the information and possibilities. When one has the experience that creates confidence that says, “success or failure in any given situation only makes me broader in my knowledge and better prepared for everything to come.”

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Born And Built is a little company long experienced in the design and fabrication of a remarkable variety of custom furnishings.
Recognizing that the client’s happiness is the primary goal, we offer design services that thrive on interaction and collaboration to execute projects that help make spaces personal and notable.
We are small enough to provide attention to every detail and nimble enough to handle most any idea. And we are never afraid to get our hands dirty.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A must see is Sunnylands in Rancho Mirage. It is the estate of Walter Annenberg and is a remarkable home and garden tour. Stop by Las Palmas Brewery in Palm Springs for great local drinks and tacos. Another new to us spot for food that is dog friendly is Boozehounds in Palm Springs, fish and chips are a must. Grab a map and a bike and cruise through Vista Las Palmas neighborhood and Twin Palms for a self guided mid-century tour. Make sure to pack a couple of pastries from Peninsula Bakery for your bike ride. The Bahn Mi vegan sandwich from Chef Tanya’s is always a good call.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
