Meet Chris Lakkees | Real Estate Consultant, Advisor and Salesman

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Lakkees and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris Lakkees, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Outsiders often underestimate how challenging it is to succeed as a real estate agent. According to the National Association of REALTORS®, nearly 87% of agents leave the industry within five years, and only about 10% earn a full-time living from selling homes. Breaking into the luxury market is even harder, as it demands not only exceptional skill but also the ability to connect with sophisticated clients on a personal and professional level.
Success in real estate requires a unique combination of skills: a deep understanding of economics, finance, market trends, compliance, and outstanding communication and marketing abilities. This balance is rare, as it combines analytical expertise with interpersonal finesse.
Contrary to how real estate is often portrayed on television—with melodrama and superficiality—wealthy, discerning clients seek professionals who are reliable, knowledgeable, and capable of handling significant investments with tact and precision. The Hollywood version of real estate glamour is far from the reality of earning trust in such a demanding industry.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Chris Lakkees is a seasoned professional with decades of experience in business development and operations, now specializing in the luxury real estate and business sectors. His career began in 1998 with The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company in Laguna Niguel, where he managed hotel communications. In 2002, he played a pivotal role in the U.S. launch of the iconic Jimmy Choo brand, working closely with its founders in their retail division in sales and marketing. Chris combines his deep understanding of the luxury market with robust business expertise, holding an MBA from USC’s Marshall School of Business.
Chris’s connection to real estate runs deep, stemming from his family’s legacy in global property development. His grandfather spearheaded commercial and residential projects across the Caribbean, North America, the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. Building on this foundation, his family has developed over 500 multifamily residences in California and Miami. Chris contributed to these efforts, including business development for notable projects like Arte, a 182-unit luxury property in Southern California.
In the broader real estate sector, Chris has been instrumental in several high-impact ventures. He helped in business development and growth for a national real estate banking franchise, expanding it to 1,000 employees across 250 offices and driving $5 billion in annual revenue. As Executive Vice President of Business Development for one of California’s largest builders, he oversaw the development of luxury hotels and multifamily residences. The firm’s prominent projects such as The Ritz-Carlton in Downtown Los Angeles, The W Hollywood, The Beaudry, 8th & Grand Los Angeles, Shoreline Gateway Tower in Long Beach, and The Metropolis in Downtown LA. With his extensive network and unparalleled expertise in luxury real estate, Chris offers a competitive edge to buyers and sellers navigating Southern California’s dynamic market.
A Southern California native, Chris has pursued a passion for film production since the age of 12. Outside of his professional endeavors, his projects have raised over $15 million for women’s and children’s charities. His award-winning films have been acquired by Netflix and presented before U.S. Congress, the United Nations, and international parliaments, influencing legislative reforms. Currently, Chris is consulting on a climate change documentary directed by Oscar-winner Malcolm Clarke, supported by the Principality of Monaco, global A-list talent, and the World Bank. This project underscores his personal commitment to sustainability, innovation, and positive change.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
What makes California truly unique is the incredible proximity of its beaches, mountains, and snow-covered peaks. I’d start the week in Malibu, weaving my way along the stunning coastline, exploring iconic landmarks, luxurious hotels, and exceptional eateries through Orange County and the California Riviera, from Newport to Laguna Beach.
From there, I’d head north to the serene beauty of Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear, enjoying the crisp mountain air, scenic lakes, and outdoor adventures. Finally, I’d make my way down to the vibrant Palm Springs and Palm Desert areas, soaking in the local festivities, cultural events, and desert charm.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Many works and figures have profoundly shaped my journey. Musicians like Bob Dylan and writers such as Walt Whitman have left an indelible mark on my perspective. Books like Viktor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince, Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist, Wilderness: The Lost Writings of Jim Morrison, and Robert Hagstrom’s The Warren Buffett Way have each contributed to my understanding of life, purpose, and success. Additionally, diving into countless Harvard and consulting case studies has further fueled my passion for learning and growth.
I am deeply grateful to my family, mentors, and the wisdom of these literary works—they have all played a significant role in shaping the person I am today.
