We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Louis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I think people tend to give up because it’s easy. It’s easier to say, “I quit.” than it is to actually keep going and pursue whatever it is you’re going after. The way I know to keep going is by looking at where I’ve been, where I currently am, and where I have the potential to go. You never know just how close you are to achieving your dreams and having everything it is that you want. Another big factor in knowing to keep going is recognizing and believing that you’re enough. Once that’s set in your mind, nothing can stop your shine.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been working on different projects that include not just acting, but dancing as well. In the midst of still being a diligent actor and auditioning, I have taken it upon myself to collaborate with other creatives to work on skits, short films, and other forms of entertainment. I’m really excited about the productions I intend to create myself, along with the help of several other artists. I would say getting to where I am today on a professional level would be credited to God for allowing me to work with others who are also built for this industry and have decided to keep going. I’ll be honest, it hasn’t been easy, especially with the pandemic that we’ve been experiencing. Even in the midst of a global pandemic, I could not slow down. I saw it as a opportunity to discover what I’m capable of under certain circumstances. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that being an actor/artist is not for the faint of heart. The demanding lifestyle that can come with being in this industry should not be taken lightly, and if you’re not ready for it, it’s best to walk away from it. And that’s okay, as long as you’re able to recognize that about yourself, you have the choice to do whatever it is you want to do that’ll ultimately make you happy. For me, if there’s one thing that the world should know about me, it’s that I’m not perfect, but I do my best every day to make an impact or some sort of difference in people’s lives for the better.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would definitely go to the beaches in Malibu, weather permitting. We’d take a trip down to San Diego, see the different sights and get good food in the downtown area. I also think if there’s time, we would visit Catalina Island and embrace the culture out there. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shoutout to God for never leaving my side and blessing me with the gifts I have. To all of my friends and family who have supported me in the 5 years that I’ve been in LA: my mother, who I owe my life to, my sisters and brothers who’ve looked out for me in both good and bad times, Choice Skinner who has not only mentored me and been my acting coach, but has been a true friend and inspiration to me in my career, and countless others who have shown continuous support and encouragement.
