Meet Chris Scalco | Recording Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Scalco and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
Remember to have fun.
I spent a long time taking my career too seriously, and it brought me so much anxiety. Keep it light – if it doesn’t feel good, don’t force it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a singer, songwriter and producer. What sets my art apart from others is that it’s an honest reflection of who and where I am, and my path is my own. I just make what feels good to me, and it often comes out sounding like ’90s R&B.
This career has required a lot of work, courage and innovation. Here are some insights that have helped me move through it:
Trust your intuition. Like confidence, trust is built through making and keeping commitments to ourselves.
Take full accountability. Whatever it was that didn’t feel like it worked out can be an opportunity for growth if we allow ourselves to see it that way.
There are no quick fixes – we must do the work. Stay organized, and do a little each day. Make sure to schedule plenty of play time as well – we’re not machines.
Have a life outside of work. Investing too much of myself into my work left me burned out. Find things that bring you joy and nourishment that are totally separate from the work.
Be action-oriented. It’s so easy to over-prepare every detail before we get started, and while preparation is crucial, we need to be able to discern between intelligence and resistance.
And again: remember to have fun! It’s going to be tough to make it sustainable if you have to muscle through it every day.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you like live music, Howl at the Moon dueling piano bar is a great time. It’s a big, interactive party, and it’s all requests so they’ll play whatever you want!
If you want a relaxing day to just walk around and enjoy a beautiful, peaceful environment, I’d recommend Celebration, Baldwin Park, downtown Winter Garden, or Park Ave in Winter Park. Plenty of little spots to sit, grab a cup of coffee, or go for a walk in the park.
For coffee, I’d recommend Drunken Monkey, which also has some really good vegan food options. I’d also recommend Black Bean Deli, which has some great coffee and Cuban food.
I know some people don’t care to spend time in more tourist-heavy areas, but even though I’ve lived in Orlando for a long time, I still get excited for some of our entertainment staples. If you’re into the theme parks but don’t have a pass, Disney Springs is another beautiful place to walk around and experience a touch of Disney magic and a modern shopping experience. If you’re there, Blaze pizza is the move – definitely the best bang for your buck, and it’s delicious.
Similarly, Universal CityWalk is a nice mix of live entertainment, restaurants and shopping – after 6:00, parking is free.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My dear friend and fellow artist Jason Channel deserves a shoutout and a half. This man is not only made up of pure light, but his imagination is Figment-esque. He is solution-oriented and supremely confident in himself and in me, and he’s really helped me find clarity through my emotional storms. I’m blessed to have a friend who pushes me towards action and encourages me to find the light in any situation. Plus he travels through time, so we get to go to some cool places.
