We had the good fortune of connecting with Chrissy Ras and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chrissy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was to put everything I have into it. I removed the safety net of a full-time pay check to focus my energy on success, and didn’t give myself the option to fail. I’ve always been fascinated with running my own business. I learned the most about being an entrepreneur through my bath and body product company, Body Blends in the early 2000’s. I researched my distribution channels, hired an attorney, a chemist, and a marketing specialist to help me get my company up and running. All of my business experimentation led me to finally quit my day job and focus on my current business full time in 2013. My thought process behind it was to put everything I have into it. I removed the safety net of a full-time pay check to focus my energy on success, and didn’t give myself the option to fail. I allowed the fear of failure to drive me forward instead of freezing me in place.
What should our readers know about your business?
My company, CR Music School is different because we take our musicians to the finish line. Although many of our students are beginners, we teach intermediate and advanced students. We created an Artist Development Coaching Program that teaches students to work with other musicians, learn how to set up their own equipment, how to break down and learn songs, writing original music, stage performance technique, setting up and running sound, creating set lists, managing their presence on social media, and booking shows. Think of it like a coaching staff for a sports team. The skills they acquire and their confidence level increases their chance of becoming successful musician, if that is their goal.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I was researching business start up and considering the jump, I was grateful to learn about SCORE. This non profit organization is a group of retired volunteers committed to helping fledgling entrepreneurs get their business off the ground!! Their service was invaluable to me!
